Nice to see you still around Toby. Brian tells us you're putting a new motor in your baby. Nice. Cool

My setup:

You can't see the bracket but I made it so it bolts to the bumper holes, that way I can still use a bumper. It basically looks like a "T", with the top part of the "T" bolted to the body and the stem of the "T" is where the oil filter mount is bolted to. The bracket has since been powder coated orange to match the rest of the engine.

Made mine out of steel sheet stock. I made it so it raises the filter a little. The alum filter mount is above the bolts.

Mine is bolted to the bumper bracket too. My Son laughs at it since it hangs so low you can see it from the rear. I thought JohnJ's filter mounted to 1/2 of a rear motor mount bar looked like a better idea.

I just used a bit of square stock bolted to the left bumper mount.

i rebuilt a suzuki 1.6 engine, put a fram on it, ran it for 2 days , only to loose oil pressure and destroy the mains, i pulled the oil pan to find all the cardboard from the fram stuck to the bottom of my oil pick-up screen.

but ya, cut one open and cup open any other brand, and you will find out why not to use them, the only reason they are so big is due to good advertising.

just my 2cents

If you want peace of mind by never having to worry about a blown canister, buy a System 1 oil filter. They spin on to the filter base plate shown in the original poster's pic. You wash the screen and reinstall it. They are pricey though: $151 and up. (Made in the USA in Californ-i-a). That's the cost of 15 HP1 filters, so it will pay for itself in 45,000 miles. There is a 'Find a Dealer' tab at the System 1 website.

If it makes you feel any better, I bought one from Gene Berg in 1997 for $90.

Yes, they may not have that line up and running yet. It was in pretty bad shape. Wink Wink
Have you ever stopped to thing, that it is maybe the box that was made in Germany?? Twisted Evil
Some Mahle filters are made in Germany, some in Maylasia, some in South America, AND, some are even made in USA.

I looked at the MANN filter I've got, Russ. The box clearly says "Made in Germany" and Mahle. I've had it probably six months though and who knows when it was manufactured.

But we all know the "global economy" could change all that in an intstant.

One thing that he does not mention, and he may not be aware of it, but Mahle now owns Dana/Wix, and they also own Mann.
Most of their oil filters are assembled in China now.
We shipped a complete oil filter line that came out of Murfreesboro, TN last year to China.
Champion Filters is owned by a big conglomerate known as UCI. A competitor to Mahle.

Yeah, I've seen that page and others. He does recommend HP1 for [Mopar] racing applications. Unfortunately, he doesn't have flow data, only observational.

This guy likes the HP1:

I've been using HP1 since the day Gene Berg sent me one in my kit. Never an issue and seems to be doing it's job. I also run the Berg pressure relief valve so over-pressure isn't an issue for me in the cold...and my oil gauge proves it as well Wink

better parts are better parts, fram is not owned by the company as it was back in the day. here is a long list of types, plus pics of them disassembled, etc http://www.knizefamily.net/minimopar/oilfilters/opinions.html

Glad to be of service. I picked up the MANN for the next oil change [on the Notch] the last time I was in our local ACVW parts store.
