Well since I last posted I brought my ghia home. Before I did Mike with HOG installed my tweed headliner. I am glad he installed it because it looks awesome. Wanted to thank Mike with HOG for getting me all the parts I needed, and letting me bug him day or night. He really has a great deal of knowledge. Derik with Wagen Werks for putting the engine together, coming out to my house installing it and for all the help and advice. Mike with A Step Above for being there from the beginning to the present. He has been at my house several times to help me install various things, and to keep it polished up. He is truely A Step Above. And of course my awesome wife for putting up with me:) I am blessed to know such great people. ok ok I have been tearing down my seats getting them ready to paint. I picked up my seat covers, pads, and door panels that I ordered from HOG. I will post more when they get installed. Here are some pics of where it is now as you will see there is still alot of little things to finish.

I am so envious... not only because you and Mike got to do all the work, or because you got the chance to work with him, learn some of his techniques and secrets maybe, but most important, he was kind enough to let you work at his shop... most guys here won't even let you inside their shop. This is one of the times I wish I was living in PDX (the other being micro-brew tasting

Well, Mike has painted, color sanded and polished all the inside compartments, inside the nose, body,Hood,Doors, and Deck lid. I am(well almost ) at a loss for words it looks nicer than a new car. I am very thankful I met and have become friends with him. He does some amazing work! He has a very special skill. The color is twilight blue w/metallic and peral its hard to see in the pics what the color is it changes at each angle, but in person to me it looks blueish/silver. Next I will be working with Mike W/HOG on getting the parts necessary to put my baby back together. We were able to put the body on the pan today(special thanks to Mike and Tony w/HOG, Mike and Robert w/A Step Above Auto Body, and Derick w/Wagen Works for helping get it on) Also wanted to thank Derick for stopping by and helping us out with the Brakes and Tranny. ASA Mike and I are going to the shop tomorrow to run airlines , and dial in a few things... I will post more pics as the build continues. Here are some pics of where we are now.

Awesome! Thanks for the pics. I bought the UPol kit and was wondering about the coverage with the tint. Did it cover (in terms of color) in a single coat? How much of the product did it take to do the wheel wells and assorted parts? I bought the 4 bottle kit and I'm hoping to do the wells, under luggage area and inside the front spare tire area... Would be nice to do the bottom of the pan if there is extra material. _________________ You Tube Channel w/vids of the car's progress

I'm jealous. That looks so much better than the roll on stuff that I used. It is going to be one gorgeous car. _________________ 1974 Karmann Ghia Coupe (in progress)

Ahhhh.... More Ghia porn. Thanks so much for my fix
By the way, I'm not sure if it is exactly the same product but I've very happy with the chip guard used on my wheel wells. It has performed perfectly with almost 7 years and 4,900 miles on it.

Well, Mike sprayed black rubberized undercoating on the inside of the car below the carpet line. He also sprayed tinted bedliner in the fender wells, and everywhere visible underneath the car. Mike has been teaching me alot about taping and masking to help prep for him to do his majic Mike also painted color on all the inside stuff dash, inside nose, jams, engine compartment, etc. Anyhow here is some pictures of our progress, and we hope to have the rest of the car in color by the end of the week, and then its cut and buff so I am looking forward learning another step of the process.

Great. You have done a heck of a job on the ghia replacing rust. It would have been a shame to put a louvered hood back on the car. |

nice ghia - but a louvered hood...in Oregon.
it's just more holes to leak in |
those are deluxe! there are aluminum drain pans fitted to the underside of the hoods. Mike the bodyshop guy had to have them! so we did a little trade deal....I cant see those in my future....I dont think Mike does either other than for decoration as Marcos said. _________________ House of Ghia, since 1980
