The VanAlert app is LIVE!
I'd like to inform you about a new item I've created... It's an app specifically for Vanagon owners named VanAlert. One of the many items we offer is a Driveway Camp Hosts listing similar to what's been created here in this thread. Our app will list Driveway Hosts in order of closest to your current GPS location and give you the Hosts contact info such as Email Address and/or Phone Number so you can reach out to them to see if it's possible for you to camp.
Download the app here:
Apple App Store
Google Play Store
Driveway Camp is a section that'll list all users nearest to your phone's GPS location that will allow traveling Vanagon owners a safe driveway to camp in for the night. Hosts have several amenities that they offer and when signing up you too can list the items you'd like to offer: Driveway/ Curb Space/ Shore Power/ Shower/ Laundry/ Tools. We have signup forms in the app if you'd like to include yourself as a Driveway Camp Host.
Our app has a few other features such as Stolen Van Alerts, Repair Shop Listings, Camp Site Locations and other media categories. All of which can be previewed here:

A few minutes off of I66 at Manassas. If Alaric H is unavailable space wise, you can crash here. Only about a 15 minute drive to his place without traffic. I do have a guest room if you don't want to sleep in your van _________________ 1987 Westy |

Update: I've hosted one Sambaista, from Quebec, since posting here and also a friend of the "skylight gal" Cheri (In Chevy 4x4). So two Canadians and enjoyable both times. One showed up with Canadian and German beer; I took him kayaking so win-win for both. I enjoy showing someone our local area.
Through LiMBO, I know quite a few New England members, and have thought about a loop trip, staying at a couple of their properties. Perhaps someday, I can do a longer trip and utilize one of the places offered and see their area with local knowledge. _________________ John - 86 Wolfsburg Westfalia "Weekender"

Just found this thread. Thanks to those that have bumped it so it shows.
idea -
Just completed a 3k mi trip, i can say it would be cool to have this on a map. Even just to know how to get local info from someone. The rescue squad organizes nicely by radius but I found myself plotting the city names to see if the '50 miles away from me' was in the direction I was heading.
If already is or if it has been tried but failed, let me know, otherwise I can plot the 'general' locations. _________________ 83.5 Westy with Subaru 2.5, 4 spd manual, center seat, COLD A/C on 134a!, Winter camp heated with an Espar B4 gasoline furnace

That's like 25 miles up the Columbia River from Astoria. House is kind of torn up right now (just got here, it's my retirement project in case the Westy doesn't keep me busy enough) but I can move the piles of stuff to make some room. Shower, driveway, coupla beds, dock out the back door if you have kayaks, I'm a mile up a channel from the Columbia River. Not always home - that's what retirement is for, right? - so write ahead.
Guess I'll have to change my locator, eh? But it's still rainy... |

I'll offer up a spot in my yard. We have about a half acre, but a big side yard with plenty of room. It's also between 2 garages so water and power are easy to get to. I have a freestanding garage in the rear with a lift and a full selection of fab tools.
I'm just north of Tampa in Pasco County. _________________ "In any racing engine, the nearer you are to it disintegrating, the better it's performance will be"

I just moved to my new house about 1 mile from Lucky Peak State Park in SE Boise, Idaho. I have a not-quite-level parking spot with power hookup across the street from fly fishing in the Boise River. _________________ _____________________

Hello,
We have some space to park in Onalaska WA, just off the 12 East, 15 min. E of the 5.
Sorry, no alcohol or other intoxicants as this is a community space dedicated to keeping the 5 lay-Buddhist precepts. We have a nice spot, though, with a fire pit along the side of the house and would love to connect with other Van travelers/dwellers.
Go-well:) |
Very nice. Thank you! _________________ Dave O
