Spent some time working on the bus. Put it on Jack stands, adjusted the rear brakes, replaced the front brake soft lines, scrubbed the paint with CLR then washed it. While I had the wheels off I took the time to tape and paint them.
Old brake lines, I’m glad nothing bad happened
New line, from Autozone
My 12 yr old son helped me bleed the brakes, he did a good job. We pushed a whole bottle fluid thru the system and the reservoir looks clear again.
Taping and painting the rims, I used rustoleum aluminum metallic
Looks pretty good and the brakes are excellent! Still a couple of weeks before we get on the road, but I need to continue to click off items so it’s ready when the time comes.
Still a few more things on my list to accomplish on the bus and the trailer _________________ __________

Ive been wanting to repaint the pop top, the sun killed the gel coat and it was looking pretty rough. With 2 events in the Southwest coming up and possibly another Cali trip over Thanksgiving, I figured now’s as good of time as any.
I sanded it with 120 grit, cleaned it with mineral spirits and got busy painting. I put 3 coats of Majic oil based tractor enamel on it. I let ot cure for 24 hrs inbetween coats. Wonder how long it will last?
I also installed a new ARB awning cover. Like the gel coat on the pop top, the sun killed that too.
Both look pretty good, more stuff to do next weekend.

I’ve used Patina sauce, but the dirt from the dirt roads gets embedded in it. Although, it makes my beetle look great and I use it all the time on that car.
The bare spots are not an issue here in Southwest Colorado, no salt here. I use CLR on it a couple of times and year and it stays nice. _________________ __________

Today I used a green 3M scrubby and scrubbed the body with CLR mixed with water out of a spray bottle. I definitely wanted to scrub all the surface rust that occurred while in Cali, as I have many sections without paint. Then I washed it, it’s definitely looking a lot better now.
After that I changed the transaxle oil, I used 80/90 SuperTech. It had only been 5000 miles since I changed it last. But, when it treats you good on an epic road trip. You give it the works when you get home.
Went ridding too

Today I adjusted the valves and installed new Fel-Pro cork gaskets. I changed the oil, I used Valvoline VR-1 20/50 and a Mobil 1 301A filter. I wiped down the engine bay and underneath, as I offer do. I rotated the tires and cleaned the rims while they were off the bus.
Then I started working on my Allstate trailer. I have some nice upgrades I’m working on.
24,000 miles on the build and it’s still pretty clean.

Thx! We adopted her 4 months ago and she’ll be 7 on the 22nd. We took her from a bad situation and she seems to be very thankful we did. She is really well behaved and doesn’t bark. As you see in the picture, she is just hanging out loose in the front yard. No issues with her running off or after people walking by. We are working through some GI issues right now, but that life with a Shepherd. _________________ __________

I changed the oil, switched to Valvoline 20/50 VR1. It was recommended to me by a friend and it seems to check all the ACVW boxes. I adjusted the valves and ended up reusing the gaskets that were on there. I had ordered some blue strip Fel-Pros from Amazon and put the unopened package on the shelf. When I opened the package 2 months later. it turns out I didn’t get Fel-Pro gasketsz. They sent me some bull shit knock off ones and I would never use them. I painted my Wittle Wadder and changed the front brake pads, they were really low. All this work in the snow, March in Colorado. Ready to road trip!

Missed this, sorry. It’s an extension cord that I have plugged into a Kats VW-15 sump heater. _________________ __________

Got a delivery from BBB today! Samba Member Mtnbus picked me up a ladder for Peryl while he was there. Big thanks to Mtnbus!!!!!
I did take vacation and had permission from wifey to attend BBB. But I chose to stay home and work on my ‘65 Beetle. With the money I had set aside for the trip I bought new upholstery and a stereo system for the car. I spent the better part of the week installing all that stuff. Link to that if you’re interested.

The ladder needs to be painted, think I’m gonna use undercoating. Also think I might modify it a little bit so I can permanently attach it to the bus, 100% on that yet though.
