Reno NV, The Biggest Little City each year hosts Hot August Nights billed as one of the largest classic cars shows in the USA with 6000 entries and numerous other cars in attendance. The VW family attendance keeps growing, local and out of state, representing our place in American car culture.
Monday over 100 VWs showed up at the Atlantis (organized by the VDub Hub), Tuesday we gathered at Fibercraft for a VW only event and today the Show & Shines are getting under way at Casinos and Downtown. If you are into the classics this is the place to be.
Kudos to the Judges at the Downtown Summit Racing show and shine today for recognition in a field of amazing classics, originality has its place even among the $$$ restorations. Fun day, lots of great people, check it out if you have a chance. Take Care!

VW Hub of Northern Nevada along with the National Automobile Museum ran a VW only event today. They allowed us to bring a group of VWs in for the day among their amazing collection.!

me, I had so many miles of good times in my 1971 that I'd go with that just to be young again. Just wish they were easier to find that clean and low miles. It belongs in a climate controlled museum with do not touch ropes all around it. There is probably not another one in the world as pristine as your 1971. Of course, we take out museum pieces so the world can see what they were like - aircraft, train engines, farm steam engines etc., so people can see what came before. It is just so beautiful. _________________ George Carlin:

The VDUB HUB of Northern Nevada had it's Summer Fest 25 today.
Had a chance to park next to the new ID Buzz for comparison.
I think I know which one I like the best.
At 55 years senior to the Buzz it still looks fresh and modern to me,
Just hit 33,111 prior to driving to the show, stay young!

@busdaddy
I have the non-swivel passenger side visor clip, and it cracked from previous years of attempted swiveling.
Suppliers don't offer a replacement for the [clip + pin/rod] assembly that slides into the visor. I've rigged up something to use with the open clip in the meantime, but any idea where to source the OG clip/pin? |

If the pin is short, pull it out a little bit to fit. |
Correct for the drivers side, but the OG passenger one was solid with a permanent pin cast right into it, you can see it in the pic from page 8 along with it's PO repair.

Keeping the OG CA Blue license plates. Everything that came with the bus other than some recycled rugs that were used to protect the floors are staying with it.
We even reworked the curtain material that the first owner made for it to keep the sun out on hot days.
Put a few hundred miles on it, a little over 550 since the purchase and refresh, just to keep it limber and enjoy the ride since acquiring it on August 31st, 2021.
Will have it out at Hot August Nights in Reno again this year. If you are planning to be in town for the event let me know. Great 70"s bands playing at the GSR for free, WAR, AMERICA, FOGHAT... with the great hit "Slow Ride" take it easy.
Perfect theme song for a VW BUS

I can't even find a part number for the fixed mount right now, I think the only place you'll find one is NOS somewhere. I have drilled the broken mount in the past and pressed in a painted aluminum dowel to repair it, or put the dowel in the visor and use the removeable clip. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Hopefully not to controversial
Here is what I'm going with for "summer" oil.
Castrol GTX Classic 20-50W with High Zinc Content.
Also did a drain refill of the transmission, there was lengthy passionate discussion in the forum on that topic
Driven GL-4 80-90W a little pricey at $13.00 per quart but this should be good for quite some time now.

nice job Jay. If the starter hangs again, pull the solenoid off the starter with the starter out, flush the old grease out of the solenoid plunger with some WD-40 or electrical cleaner*, and spray some white lithium grease in it. Good for another 65,000 - 80,000 miles.
*You don't want anything that would remove the coating from the solenoid windings or soften the cardboard tube. _________________ George Carlin:
