Thanks! Yeah, I'll eventually do another round of polishing and keep it waxed. I might try a bit of 409 or CLR as well. _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

If you want to try painting your new rear mat with a vinyl paint to come close to the original factory grey, SEM's "Storm grey" or "Warm grey" could work-
Scrub the mat with dishwashing detergent and a soft brush, dry it off, let it sit in the sun for a few hours to warm up. Then apply the spray in several light coats. |

Nah, no clear coat for me. When it comes home full time I will definitely have to keep up on it. Here are a few pictures of the drivers door:
I also worked on getting the old repro mat replaced. Found part of the original anthracite mat stuck to the cargo liner, yay. I did my best to get it off cleanly but it didn't work out too great. I might replace this cargo liner...
In the meantime, I put a new mat in it.
Also added some original Albert mirrors:
My mom was in town so we took her to the local VW Christmas Cruise event:
Just loving this thing. Now I just need to get it home full time! _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

I drilled some holes and took a drive to Santa Cruz with some other Volkswagens.

An excellent shot! Did you notice any water leaks inside the car from driving in the rain? |
I'm pretty sure there are leaks. The doors need to be rebuilt and the window rubber in the rear quarters / rear hatch are original. They aren't petrified, but still old and there's shrinkage. This looks like rain, but it was really heavy mist.
I do need to fix these wipers, though! _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

I continued tinkering with the Squareback this weekend. I did some more polishing and cleanup on some bits and pieces. I was able to get some white overspray on the roof off. I'm so thankful they only did this one part. After cleaning up the crusty mirror, I installed a reproduction buffer. I added some accessory early door buffers and a bud vase holder. Next up, seat covers.

Cool, I hope you can get me more information on it.
It was freaky when you posted that garage pic because I totally remembered the car and how it was buried in there when the guy had it for sale.
I wonder what happened where it got all faded out in the meantime.
I never saw it in person but it looked like really solid original paint in the older photos. |
I think I know some people who have the backstory. They followed it around San Jose and kept tabs.
I put my Squareback rear cargo net in for Kelley Park. Really neat accessory and it gave me some ideas for the future.

OK thats kinda neat. If you are caring a load of pillows or feathers, you will be safe. _________________

Pulled my Squareback out this weekend for the Wharf show in Santa Cruz. While it was out I swapped out the hodgepodge wheels for some original paint clay beige wheels & tires.
