| Dimensions? For those that have one of these, could someone please post the physical dimensions of the unit? I'm trying to see if it will fit underneath a Truckfridge49 (either with or without the slight mods mentioned in this thread) |

Yes to better clamps and fuel pump mount!
The hinge on the fridge door, allows me to access the controls without having to dump all the cold air out of the fridge. Neodymium magnets countersunk in the door to keep the panel upright while traveling.
Here’s the origin of the idea:
https://www.griffco.ca/VW/vwfridgemods.html
(More good stuff): https://www.griffco.ca/VW/vwmods.html
From the left, the red switch is my automatic igniter. If the flame in the combustion chamber goes out, the igniter automatically strikes and keeps the fridge lit. Also, no more need to click the left knob to ignite, auto piezo strikes every 3x/seconds. The other two switches are an internal fan, and two rear fans. The rear fans switch overrides the thermal sensor, but if you leave the switch off, the fans turn on when the thermal sensor circuit closes.

I’ve thought about moving my controller to the front of the stove, I like that.
What’s with the hinged panel on the front of the fridge cabinet? _________________ ‘88 2wd Auto Westy project |

Nice install. The furnace looks like it was made for that closet space..
One cautionary note…The fuel pump mount in your picture is tearing, I’d recommend new ones soon. _________________ '68 Westy- my first VW and vehicle/Bus- long gone.- sold it to a traveling Swiss couple....

Here’s my attempt. I always felt like the hidden electrical cupboard was a waste of space. I once saw someone else use that space, and knew I’d use it someday. Turns out it was the furnace. (Sorry, my bench seat isn’t back in yet)
I was at the very start of repairing seam rust on the driver side when GoWesty came out with the furnace. It was the perfect opportunity with all the cabinets out. This one took a lot of modification of the water tank cupboard as well as the GoWesty furnace cover.
Hot air blows at your toe’s, cold air return is on top.
This one is going to be photo heavy.
Thinking about a heat shield between the propane tank and the furnace exhaust.
Instead of the in-line T before the fuel pump and filter, I opted for a Y with a shut off.

The tee should be the first connection after the tank, before the fuel pump. _________________ ‘88 2wd Auto Westy project |

In my installation using the GW instructions, the fuel line T goes between the tank and the main fuel pump. I'd think that is the case regardless of engine or drive mechanism (I have a 2WD with a Subaru) |
That's what made sense to me but I always like to check.
thanks,

Q: Do (or did) you need to drill the intake and exhaust holes off center so that they don't interfere with the driveshaft or the driveshaft protector? It's a very tight fit up there as you probably know. In an e-mail to me, GoWesty said that for Syncros the holes need to be a "little off center" but didn't provide any other detail.
Good luck with the rest of your install.

I installed on the passengers side. I did remove the rear heater and I am gaining a lot of (needed) storage. My hope is that the furnace will allow me to enjoy more winter camping. At my age (80) I need all the comfort I can get.

Rowan, I would check with GoWesty as well, but from their install video it looks as if you need to tap into the larger fuel hose upstream from the fuel pump (before it gets pressurized).

I'm in the process of installing the GoWesty kit. I can't exactly follow the instructions because I have a Syncro with a Bostig conversion. I'm ready to cut the fuel line but I'm unclear on where I should cut it. Should I cut the fuel line and install the t-fitting between the tank and the fuel pump, after the fuel pump but before the fuel filter, or after the fuel filter? Does anyone know?
Thanks,

I got the Espar B4 (gas) and its never too much - it just runs at a much lower speed/output. I REALLY love than I can have (with the top down) it 80 in there on a -10 day and tat wasn't maxed out - with the top up I never maxed it out so so can't say. when top is up in the winter I do use the silver bubble wrap insulation on top and that has a HUGE affect. _________________ 83.5 Westy with Subaru 2.5, 4 spd manual, center seat, COLD A/C on 134a!, Winter camp heated with an Espar B4 gasoline furnace

GW advertises this as a 2kW heater... about 6,800 BTU. the below observation seems about right when comparing to a 120v cube heater. those output 5,200 BTU and have a hard time keeping the interior warm with an ambient temp below 30F and top popped.
regardless, they are sold out now with no ETA for stock return. mebbe the sweet spot for an uninsulated, popped top heater in less than 30F ambient is 5kW. anyone running an 8kW and is it just crazy too much?

I’m surprised that the heater does not have too much output to run all night, but I’m fine just letting it run.
The instructions from GW are really limited. Took me forever to figure out how to get it to keep running rather than timing out. When you push the home button twice it shows a timer, which defaults to 10 min, but the next number LOWER than 10 min is infinity! _________________ White 89 Westy with 2004 Subaru EJ25 and Subarugears 5MT - Betty |

Posted this about a month ago.
The heater pulled 5.5 - 6A for about 5 minutes on start up, and then was using about 2A (25 watts) while running.
I’ll be camping for 4 nights in NH next week and will have a much better idea about power consumption overnight after that trip. Expected to be 30 degrees each night so will be a good test of the output. _________________ White 89 Westy with 2004 Subaru EJ25 and Subarugears 5MT - Betty |
