Im in Canton OH for the next week for work and had mentioned to a coworker (from the OH area) about my VW and how I was looking for a few parts still for my 74. He had said there was a VW yard called Beetle Barn in Cambridge OH. I had found a little info online about this place but would like to know if anyone has been/seen or picked parts from this place? Pics? Just curious if they were worth hitting up before I make the 60mi drive. Thanks! |

Is this the place located at the intersection I-77 and I-70?
You can see it from I-77 heading north. I have driven past it many times heading to Myrtle Beach but never stopped, A lot of cars parked in the yard.
Sorry I wasn't more help. What are you looking for? |

I spoke with them today and seem to have all if not most of what I'm looking for. I'll be out there around 10 or so Sat. |

I stopped in at the Beetle Barn. It was okay. Very unorganized, I wish I would have taken some pictures. The man seemed to have a lot of stuff, mostly late model beetle, super beetle, and late model bus, vanagon, water cooled. nothing to write home about. I did manage to pick up a cast iron bosch 010 for a great price, but that was it.
Also, if you have a very low tolerance for racist "ni*#er this, ni*#er that" talk like I do, stay away. This guy talks like a plantation field boss. its really annoying and offensive actually. I left early on account of it. _________________ always seeking a better way

Anyone looking for parts, Jim Gombeda passed away in October, and they are doing a crush out at the Beetle Barn in the next few weeks.
Hillside Auto Wrecking is clearing the yard. If you are interested in anything, contact Hillside at 740-432-6320 between 8-5 and ask for Chris. The cars will probably start being crushed next week. |

Anyone interested, I talked to Chris down at Hillside, and he said he got lots of calls about the Beetle Barn. He said they are going to have a “yard sale” this Saturday April 2nd from 9-3. This is for the non-complete vehicles/parts in the yard only, that you pull, and carry on foot. Yard vehicles are available for sale whole, but will not have any paperwork/titles. They are thinking about having an auction for the stuff in the buildings, and any mostly complete restorable vehicles will be in the auction. Vehicles will start being crushed Monday, so Saturday is it if you want anything from the yard. |

Didn't watch the whole thing. But that's too bad to let all that go to scrap. _________________ '69 Beetle

I am going to try to get over there tomorrow morning. We are not sure how crazy it is going to be, or if I even want anything, but who knows. It is about 2 1/2 - 3 hrs drive from here. _________________ Mark

Maybe a few hundred people will show up, and they will decide to auction everything off....? |

lots of really really REALLY rusty bugs, in mud, been hearing about this place for 25 years, stopped by on Saturday 4-3-22 for the yard sale, plenty of nearly complete bugs without engines from 1965-79 lots of supers, half dozen plus Ghias, an almost unrecognizable Thing, a type 4 even, bug transmissions $50 ea. you pull it, I'm hoping they are not dumb enough to crush everything with speedos, knobs, switches and trim intact, didn't see a single usable windshield but lots of side and back glass, all the bay window and later busses were off limits to parts pickers, maybe a few have titles and would be restorable if you enjoy fixing extreme rust, there was a pile of camper cabinets and wood rotting out in the weather, most everything here was junked over 20 years ago and Ohio's weather has not been kind, I'll be back for the auction, there is a large "barn" (hence the name) that is supposedly full of the "good stuff" I'm expecting piles of worn out core motors that may or may not be rotted out on the bottom, maybe a few restorable post '65 bugs and bay busses with titles if you're lucky, I should have stopped by 25 years ago before everything rotted into the mud but I was just a kid and the beetles rotted out long before the legend ever did
