Hello,
on a Syncro which is in Europe, I have to reassemble the air conditioning tunnel which is on the ceiling of the bus.

I had the bus with the tunnel dismantled, I have no idea how it should be reassembled.

Is there any documentation that explains this in detail?

Answers in French from our Canadian friends are also welcome, because my mother tongue is French.

Thank you all for your help.

Fred.

These ducts are famous for broken plastic bits.
VW had a recall on them but the recall was a failure.

Many in frustration have removed the duct work to the front and declare ithat the airflow is "better without it".

I've found it to be quite the opposite!
My A/C comfort level improved dramatically once I installed the ducts.

I made a thread on how I fixed the duct work for good!

I'll locate it and post a link.

Dave

Hello Dave,
your link is great, very well explained.

Another question, what year is the bus? Have you found the electrical diagram of this air conditioning model?

Thanks.

You have a syncro which for Europe is 1985-1992? The States 1986-1991

If you have an 85 or 86 you won't find a wiring diagram.
I made one the best I could and it is in the A/C system rebuild thread.

For late 86-91 they are in the Bentley but are not 100% accurate.
There are threads on the inaccuracy in this forum.

What year is your Syncro?

Hello Dave,
my syncro is from 1989, but no diagrams found match my vehicle.

However, some photos of the technical part which is on the rear left correspond to my bus.

But no diagrams match, it's surprising.

I also have the air conditioning controls which are on the dashboard and not on the upper part.

Thanks.

The older units had controls on the upper air distribution but the Evaporator was also on the ceiling behind the front seats.

Any of the newer systems have dash controls. Very early new are to the left of the steering wheel (left hand drive) newer ones to the right of the heater controls (again Left hand drive)

Newer VW A/C has the evaporator above the rear window.

Keep in mind that VW wasn't the only provider of A/C units, Behr was also a major provider.

Some photos of your A/C system would be helpful to help you.

It seems like VW changed their A/C wiring almost yearly and paid little attention to model year breaks while making the changes.

You have VW's A/C

You might consider rewiring it because of fire potential.......

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=757441

But except for proper wire color indication that wiring diagram is in your Bentley.

The A/C has its own separate pages for A/C wiring.
The A/C is a stand alone system.

Sorry but I don't see your problem.

Both pipes are held onto the compressor by the one clamp you show.

I don't have any photo of the connection for I changed my compressor, hoses and hose ends abandoning VW's original design.

Hello,
very difficult to explain like that, especially since my English is bad and I especially have to use an internet translator.

Thank you.

Who has an 87 or newer 2.1 with A/C they can take photos of the A/C connections at the compressor?

That should be helpful.

Here you go.

These are from my '87 syncro. You got me just as I am removing the engine so one of the a/c fittings is unscrewed.
