i'm about to buy a replacement air filter for my FI bus. auto-zone carries one that fits for 7 bucks. bus depot sells the Mann/Mahle brand for about the same, but then it has to be shipped and all that hassle. does it make any difference or should i just walk out and grab the auto-zone one?

Wait for the one from Bus Depot or Bus Boys or CIP1 or Bowie Wowie or wherever that says Mahle/Mann on it.

It is about 3 times as thick as the one at the AutoBone.

Couldn't agree more with Rand-o. It pays to learn patience when dealing with bus parts and filtration is actually an important issue with our air flow control fuel injection buses. Remember these filters are keeping debris out of the injection valves which were like $60 last time I checked- new Bosch.
