In my recent post i was saying that smoke was coming from out of what looked like a breater tube. But after looking at some pics of other engines, i saw the tube that looked like it but it wasnt open and sticking out, it was connected to something.
If you look at the engine from the open hatch at the rear it is in front of the carb and slightly to the right on top of the engine. It looks like a black braided hose connected to the top middle of engine.
Any ideas of what it is and what it means if busted? |

Can you either take a picture of it for us or copy a picture of one you have seen and put it here? _________________ I CAN MAKE IT UP THIS HILL IN 4TH GEAR I CAN MAKE IT UP THIS HILL IN 4TH GEAR

I am really hoping that whatever this tube is that busted might be what caused my bus to mess up. Better then something more major.
Any ideas yet on what it is? |

What year Bay do you have, The pic is small. Are you talking about the black hose running just behind the fan shroud , the one with the duct tape on it, the smaller gray looking one running vertical, the smaller black one comming from behind the duct tape twoard the drivers side or the larger black one behind the last one I stated running up and to the left. A better picture would help. Going to try to post the picture here I don't know if that will blow it up or not and I will try to blow it up but it will come out a little fuzzy. What kind of carb system do you have on it or is it FI? Here is where you can go to learn how to post a pic directly.

So it is the 12 or 14mm hose that goes from the oil breather to the carb for combustion?
Replace it if it is torn. |

its not torn, there is only half of it....the left side is still connected and i dont know where the right side is or where it should be going.
Do you think that could be the reason why my bus will start but not move? |

Are both ends of hose supposed to be connected to something or is one end supposed to be open?
This is huge because if this hose isnt supposed to be open ended cut-off like it is then it might be the reason why my bus starts and idles bit wont drive...
Anyone know? |

Since you said "a carb" you probably have an aftermarket progressive that was sloppily installed. Your crankcase vent needs to go to your air cleaner preferably on the outside of you element while using a PCV filter. This is more easily said than done with most junky progressive setups. It is likely easier to go to the inside of the filter element, but you should have some form of backfire preventor in place to keep from blowing you rocker covers off.

Sorry man.. everything you just said went slightly over my head. The two main things i need to know is
1. should my hose be connected to something on both ends
2. Could this be the reason my bus will start and idle but not drive? |

well damn... for a few minutes there i was thinking i wouldnt have to drop 500 to have a new clutch put in.
By the way is 500(Parts and labor) a good price to have somebody put a new clutch in? |

Why do you think it's the clutch?
What was your other thread? |

In my other thread i was talking about how i bought it and drove it about ten miles. The first time it got it anywhere near 60mph, fourth gear was doing more reving then actual powering. Then 3rd started doing it and then second and now if i start it and put it in first gear, it will barely inch forward with the clutch all the way out...
I really like my new bus and just wish i could actually get to drive it. Talk about ultimate frustration.
Here's a pic

| A clutch kit costs about 150, mechanics usually charge around 50 per hour, so 500 is a bit high but not totally nuts. If you've got the dough and don't feel like doing it yourself, go for it and start driving! |

Im all for doing it myself but am not fully confident that i know enough mechanically to pull it off.
Know of any good links that explain it step by step including removing the engine? |

| ratwell.com has an engine pull step by step. Shouldn't be more than a 5 or 6 hour job. |
