Thanks Mark, riding with me in the passenger seat is a great image. I didn't know until I got back from the Village Day this afternoon but her nephew's email was both choking and heart warming. He tells me at Betty's funeral her carer recounted to all present the joy she experienced in receiving my correspondence and photographs. Whoa that's perfect. Smile

Seth Draper (Paul_Revere's Ghia) just reminded me that The Berkeley Girl drove a Karmann Ghia...

Never seem one in that colour. Always in black. Interesting.

Not the most poetic observation from a video that had me on the border of tearful recollection. Laughing

John,
Sounds like a wonderful life to be celebrated and how lucky you are to have been a part of it.
It obviously meant a lot to her to know that the car she loved so much was in good hands and she valued still being a part of it through you.
It brings the cars existence to a much higher level.

Thanks Marc, the history of the car as a "survivor" was always important to me. Betty's ownership of 49 years places an obligation on a buyer to respect the history and not to wipe it clean. I added my stamp but it's still clearly "Betty's Baby" Smile

Good to give the Ghia a blast up the road after being away for a couple of weeks. The location the old Peninsular Barracks in Winchester, Hampshire.

No that's a picture from when the barracks was a bastion of the empire some 120 years ago...even before Betty's time. Laughing

Since when has the passage of time prevented your Ghia from appearing rather incredulously in any photo?

This is where my '58 started its life in the UK back in September 2007, 16 years ago. Hard to believe. Shocked

Lousy weather at this time so had a go at some old pictures...I took this one back in Feb. 2008 on my Ghia's 50th birthday, Thought I'd try this one in black & white this time.

Always drawn back to this roadside barn, Betty's Baby seems to fit right into the setting. Another view in b&w from 2021...

Another rainy day so I got to trawling through some old pictures.

This one of the previous owner of my Ghia, Betty Saarni, in the process of painting a watercolour of The Palace of Fine Arts, East Bay Street, San Francisco.
