My 73 body has the voltage regulator under the seat, but my 69 donor chassis has one on the fan shroud.
I will obviously have to eliminate one.
Also, i'm backdating the car to look like a 1963,
So I can put it on the generator I guess.

Any reason why or why not?

I would put a modern electronic voltage regulator under the seat. If you want the look of an older 6 volt, mount a dead voltage regulator to the generator.

Leave it under the rear seat. It's a better location to protect the regulator and you don't have to reconfigure the existing wiring.

As for moving it for the purpose of backdating the appearance of the car to a '63, the reality is very few people you'll come across in person would know or notice this detail of your car, and if they are aware of such differences, they'll very quickly notice the larger windows and other such features that identify the car as being made post-1964.

This. The average dingus can't tell the difference between an oval window and a 2001 Mexican bug, they're not gonna care about your voltage regulator.

At a car show 5 years ago with my 71 bus. Sitting in my lawn chair at the back of my bus guy comes up and says why do you have a beetle motor? I say that was the stock motor for a 71. He says I thought they had gone to the Porsche motor by 71. No they went to the type 4 motor in 72. And it was not a Porsche motor. It's what they put in the 914. Like i said, it was not a Porsche motor. Your wrong he mutters.
