People have done this.
It's a ton of work for something that most people will make fun of. _________________ Been on the samba so long I remember petting that dog to see VWs, WYHI, and green bug girl.

I think it would be rad if it wasnt so long and it
was all hippied out and such. If you like it and are
willing to do all the work I dont see why you shouldnt... _________________ '69 weekender goes by Kush (the daily)

If i wanted to put a lot of work into customizing a bus, and had access to a few, I'd chop the top _________________ '69 Bug,'71 Bus,'61 Bug ,'56 Bug, '66 Panel |

How much weight do you think that adds? _________________ ----------

Freakin' sweet. I've seen ones with one extension, like in the pic, but not two.
Personally, I think making a double decker bus would be cooler. Perhaps just do one extension, and one on top...
P.S. Definitely paint it all hippy-like. Tie-dye, peace signs, smiley faces, all that jazz. |

I think I'd add some steering angle to one of those.
My bus has a pretty large turning circle (assume that all years are the same...) can only imagine what those are like! _________________ 1971 Westfalia with a high top.

Can't you just stretch a Honda or something?
Enough perfectly good bays are getting crushed daily!
I, personally, wish you wouldn't hack 'em up
Can we do another poll about the paint job? |

I vote to keep it stock looking. They're so nice they way they are, and they aren't making any more! |

Wheelbase changes change the steering geometry. Whether you shorten or lengthen. The greater the wheel base is changed the greater the steering geometry is thrown off. Minor lengthing or shortening will give you rapid front tire wear. A major length change really gives side scuffing to the tires. You will probably hear it in a turn. And also see the actual scuff marks on the pavement. _________________ 71 Superbug
