I would personally value it at 45K. But that is me.
Ah well. It may be worth that, but not to me. |
45k is still a lot for a white notchback, non-sunroof. They just don't have the pull and the market is horrible now so at 62k is serious pie in the sky. Lots of little things wrong to be considered "restored" to me in the truest - like it was in 62.
But it is very clean, well maintained from what we can see and is a very nice example for sure. If he gets an offer for 35k, he should take it. But I doubt it will cover that laundry list of work he spouted off having been done to it by outside sources and no sweat equity. |
High 20's on a good day - Way too many people way overestimate on these notchbacks thinking they are rare...
just my opinion of course |

$62K is way too high for it having some incorrect bits...and just high in general. These cars just don't pull that much right now, unfortunately.

A white 65 Notch sold for somewhere in the $30k range on BAT recently and a gulf blue 63 I think sold for around $41k not too long ago. The Samba is not the place to find top dollar for pretty much any nicely done car. Too many VW people on it . _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

Referring to the black 1964 notchback, is it possible to use a single side draft carb on a 1776? |

I’m doing it on mine. I’ve run single 34 PICT carbs on a 1776 and 1800 on type 1 engines. _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

I guess notchbacks are still a thing. The other squareback similar to mine hasn't sold for the $45K asking price. I agree, unrestored beauties are awesome, but eventually, they will have to be refurbished. this is when a restored car makes more sense money wise. I wonder what the price for the Ruby red Beauty Josephine was? _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

I would trade my Notchback for another early Squareback (+cash depending on the car... ) in a heartbeat. _________________ 1963 Notchback - Ruby Red

Agreed. There are fantastic original examples available world wide. Nice original cars will always be better than stitched together old parts cars rebuilt to BAT standards regardless of the hype men pushing them. _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

Nothing beats original. That’s an insane price for that car. Over here it would be double at least don’t you think? _________________ Go Reds! Smash state!

I tried that once, and found that splitting the mileage worked against the cars, but it was a cool thought. At the time I had a 65 Notchback, a 70 Fastback, a 69 Squareback, and a 64 T-34. The 69 Square ended up getting the most use, as I drove it daily to work. These cars are happiest when driven regularly. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Only problem is that it's a Deluxe model with a Standard engine, which begs other questions.
That said, if it is TuV certified there likely aren't any drivability issues or safety concerns. Looks well constructed and worth the price of admission to me. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

The thing is, when I look at cars in other countries, I regularly see notchbacks in this condition about this price. More so than fastbacks or squarebacks and I gotta say, I like squarebacks better too. _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

This is what I really would have liked to have purchased over my 64 Notch four years ago. But. I will keep what I have. I am trying to do my best to not restroy but restore. The problem is that I realize the best solution would bave been a "dip job" I am not able to get where I really would like to prevent the slow rot. I may do a proverbial "steve" once I am ready to paint. But for now. I am piecing bit by bit. _________________ Ossipon
