1962 Museum Quality Unrestored Notchback Type-3 Price: $57500

New walk-around video and narration.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxRTW0dwRMw&t
Virgil of Visalia, California ordered this Type-3 Notchback as a tourism delivery and combined a 3-month European trip with his wife to pick up the Volkswagen in Holland in March of 1962. They covered over 8000 miles before shipping it back to California to be placed into routine use. The Notch became their secondary car, always in the garage until 1992 at which time they sold it to their next door neighbor who recognized how precious it was, and also kept *Pearl* garaged.
I became her custodian in 2011 and firstly moisturized and cleaned the 100% original paint. There have been no accidents, no rust, no corrosion and no touch-ups of any kind. In 2011, a small batch of this '62 seat material was milled by S.M.S. of Oregon, and I had it heat seamed to new vinyl which is an exact color match to the original. Using new horse-hair pads (not foam), the seats were master crafted along with the door panels and the German wool square weave carpet by a 356 upholstery specialist.
All German brakes were installed new in 2011 and were recently rebuilt by Apple Hydraulics. The shock absorbers, ball joints, tie rods and tires are also new. The Headliner was expertly replaced with new window rubber, including the door window seals.
*Pearl* was never fitted with a radio, an antenna, nor any modifications or accessories. She wears her two California black license plates that she has worn since 1962 and they have not been restored and are like new.
The engine was recently meticulously rebuilt by Dave Bonbright of VW, Porsche and Hudson Hornet fame. The original fuel and ignition systems have been refreshed using NOS and German parts and all of her original parts and fasteners. She starts, stops, steers, shifts and accelerates incredibly well, just as a low mile, well cared for Volkswagen should.
Original owners manuals and documentation spanning her entire life is organized in a 3-ring binder. This will be the jewel in the crown of your collection. *Pearl* is located in Southern Oregon, and maintains a California registration so as not to break the chain of registration to her original license plates. I can email high resolution photos of any details that you would like.
