Incredibly dedicated progress all over! I was shaking my head all the time, looking at the pics.
As Mike said before, if you have never done that before by yourself it looks clean and easy, when it's clearly not. imho the difficult part isn't the ton of work but, having the patience, and ability to look through a project and work steps ahead of time.
You have posted several mind boggling builds before, David, but this one again is really great stuff to watch !
WOW !!!

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it! I think you said it better than I could. This bed alone is a couple months of work reduced to a handful of pictures.
Here's a few more pics finishing the bed. Thankfully my son, Mason was still around to help on this before heading back to college. First a few coats of spray poly, then blocked out and in surface primer. Obviously some filler work in there too. And a lot of credit to Joe for sticking with this and fully supporting it.

Thanks! It's nice to be done with the bed and kind of puts it over the hump now.
I was fitting the gates as I was working on the bed. The side gates are an interesting story... I first saw them in the early 2000's. They were on a custom '59 single cab that showed at Phoenix BugoRama for sale, the truck was out of Tucson. Cut front and rear wheel wells, fiberglass flares sort of thing, all in primer. If I remember right it was about $5k and the guy would NOT separate the gates. Supposedly they were NOS, then used as shelves at an air cooled repair shop in Tucson, and ended up on that custom '59 truck. They were both the same side and one was crudely modified to be the other side. Years later, Mike Bailey Sr., who lives in Tucson tracked them down for Joe. He posted a pic back on page 5.
While Michael Bailey Jr. was doing the metal work he correctly finished the one converted side. He also made the rear gate, making a die for a Pullmax to punch the outer the skin, and also made the inside upper and lower supports. He used ends and uprights from a donor gate.
Some pics of the gates fit and ready to go to blasting...

Best build page currently on the Samba!
Thank you for sharing updates
The smooth gates look SO good on it. Was the original rear gate too far gone to use? _________________

Thanks again guys! Yeah, the rear gate was rough. Beat, rusty and thin all over. I wasn't involved in that decision, but I don't think it was savable. It'll make a good wall hanger though...
The gates are back from blasting, body worked and in first primer...

The body and all parts are getting blocked out in 180 grit and sprayed in final surface primer...

I was just feeling a little heavy handed coming in here every couple days and pushing this thread to the top. Okay, I'll post away then. Actually, I'm just about caught up and this may be the last post before paint.
I like to do one last final fit of everything on its wheels, so Joe came by with the front and rear end and we got them installed. I think this is the first time on its feet since 2009. Of course leave it to Joe to have the correct tools...
And the wet-sanding begins...

The first batch of parts are ready and delivered to Matt Howard at Deluxe Customs for paint...
Getting the second batch ready... One problem I've had before restoring gates is the seams on the backside. During the bodywork and priming process, the primer starts to bridge some of the seams, but not all. It makes for an inconsistent look, and eventually you'll get rust coming out of the open seams. So I use a very light amount of seam sealer and wipe it in with lacquer thinner for a consistent look. This takes about 3-4 hours per gate...
Second batch dropped off at Deluxe...
Once the bumper was back, I masked and sprayed the Silver White at my place...
