I'm rebuilding the ragtop assembly for my 65.

For refernce: I also had to replace my "sex screws". I couldn't bring myself to pay the $5.00 each that the replacements cost so I went to ACE hardware and put my own together for about $1.50 each.

I used loctite on one end so it adjusts like the original.

I flipped them so the beveled end is on bottom - no heads pushing out on the headliner:

I have no clue but what you've done so far looks real nice.

This vendor offers them also. I don't know anything about them.

I know your frustration. I redid my roof a few years back and ended up reusing my original foam instead of the door seal foam WW sends. Didn't like having to do it but it worked.

I see that VW Sunroofs sells the foam blocks for $11 each plus shipping. Uh, yah - mine aren't bad enough to warrant that. I added a layer of camper-top foam seal to get things back to a decent height. All good.

I also had to replace the tack strip on the header bow. Rust just plain sucks. :

All done. Three trailing bows and one header bow - ready for install.

Out of the 6 blocks on the trailing bows only one was missing. The other five were all in nice shape. I rouned the corners of the replacement block to mimic the originals.

The internal mechanism works much better without the extra rust. Smile

I found these in my bag of spare parts but I have no idea what they are. Anyone recognize them??

I believe the three on the left are for mounting the rear splash pans, they are reinforcement inside the corner. I think.

great job with the sunroof bows!
The only thing I did different was I added black heat shrink on the ends of the bows to finish it off.

The pieces on the right I am not sure of but they do look similar to the lower plates for the sunroof cross-beams? I don' t have a sunroof assembly to examine.

Look at that front lip!!! I can hardly believe it came out so straight!

MAJOR props to the Master himself, Senor Jorge Coblentz for letting me watch him do his and answering all my phone calls when I did mine! I could never have done it without his help!

nice job!
Lays flat and the front looks perfect.

I noticed when your rag is back it lays flat on itself, and I've seen this on several other buses. Mine seems to puff up. I wonder, is there a particular order in which the bows go to prevent this?

Nah, the three rear bows are all identical. I'd guess it has more to do with the spacing of the bows and the bend/angle of the rear of the bows (how it pushes the material as it goes back).

I don't recognize that. Looks like some padding - not sure about the square in the center. Neither were in my sunroof.

the square thing is metal and looks like there is a broken screw in it .

it's a 66 sunroof standard bus , will do some inspection on the bus itself next week .
Hope i can find what it is
