I wish I hadn't forgot to post this years ago. But to anyone using this type of steering wheel, it is potentially dangerous. I dont know how many are floating around.
This picture makes clear for you to see why it's dangerous. Maybe they can be reinforced or something somehow, I dont know.

You could bond that with epoxy. Looks like pot metal.
Ugly though. Blech _________________ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ π π π |

Chrysler had a rectangular one back in the early 60's that was almost that bad! _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

I can see how that would be very dangerous------the jaggedy fractured stub
by the hub could give you a really nasty cut. |

Ah! I see it now! It's broken, I thought it was just offset as in - the hub was not in the center so the steering wheel would wobble as it turned. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

I will rather use a beat up original steering wheel than risk ending up in a canyon 100 feet down.
