Purchased an SVDA distributor from ACN today. Getting the Pertronix Ignitor ignition installed in it too (no more points - yay!). Hopefully I will get it by next Friday so I can install it and put my ignition and advance and acceleration woes to rest. On to the IDFs! |

Follow their instructions and make sure that you do not wire the Pertronix in backward - you will kill it. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone 1914. Ex wifes car.

It's funny this post should come up. I just ordered a svda from them yesterday also. Hopefully this will fix my hesitation issues. Have a 009 and 34 pict-3 now _________________ '70 ghia

Let me reassure both of you that you made a wise choice. I was running a 009 with first a pict 34 on a stock 1600dp and then a Weber Progressive on my 1914. I finally bit the bullet and bought one of John's SVDA's with electronic ignition and I LOVE it. Best move I ever made for reliability, driveability, etc. Rock solid timing, fast starts, smooth acceleration.
You're going to be very happy you bought it. I'm about to send mine back to him for recurving. I'm in the process of porting and polishing my heads and switching over to dual 44 IDF's so he suggests a recurve from what it has since he built it for me when I was running a single Weber Progressive. _________________ "It's no accident that the word LISTEN and the word SILENT contain the same letters." |

I'm replacing a 009. I have a basically stock 1600 with dual 40 IDFs, 044 heads, and 1.4:1 ratio rockers. A bit of overkill, but the car will spend most of it's time on the freeway as a daily driver so I wanted it to breathe. The 009 seems to be strangling it, like the advance curve isn't quick enough or not advanced far enough. I dunno, it's like having a built 350 V8 and then putting stock exhaust and a small two barrel on it. The engine wants to rev...it's just not as fast as it should be...wierd, hard to describe. I'll def let you know what happens. |

You DO have a vacuum port, correct? _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone 1914. Ex wifes car.

I'd stick with the stock 28mm vents too. I have dual 40 s with 32 mm vents on my 1915 and the vacuum signal apparently isnt perfect. I had it recurved but it still doesnt advance past 32 total i.e. the vacuum of my dual 40s just aint doing the trick for the SVDA. Make sure when you install it that when the vacuum line(s) are installed that you get closer to 40 deg total advance. |

Both of my 40 IDFs have vacuum ports and John says to T them together and then connect to the SVDA. They are currently sporting 30mm venturiis right now, I do have a set of 28s. I realize that once this distributor is in play I'll still have a bit of monkeying to do with jetting and stuff before everything is dialed in just right. Right now I'm sitting at 30mm vents, F11s, 55 idles, 200 airs, and 115 mains. I read somewhere a good reference point for airs was 60 above your mains. I think the 55 idles are too fat and the 115 mains are too thin, but that will be determined through tuning and driving once the new distributor is in...can't wait! |

you need 50 idles, and ~125 mains. The rest looks good! _________________ It's just advice, do whatever you want with it!

Thanks John! I have the 50 idles just need to get some bigger main jets. There's a guy on ebay who sells them. He's in Italy and sends them here super cheap and tested through a Weber flowmeter. Will be ordering some 120s and some 125s soon. I remember somebody suggesting 185 airs...how can you tell if you need to change the air corrector? |

I agree.
If you stick in the 28mm vents, use the original 115 main. _________________

I have 30 mm vents in it now, Will I get a little better low end performance with 28mm vents? Will it suffer a little then at high speed? Just asking, please don't tear me up... |

Just checked my tracking number, DELIVERED!!! So this weekend I'll double check my valve lash, swap the 55 idles for the 50's, swap the 30mm vents for the 28s so my 115 mains will be more in line, time the distributor, readjust my idle mixture, sync, linkages as necessary and take the Ghia out for a spin...can hardly wait!!! |

200 airs are too big for 115 mains; if you go to 115s go to 175-180s _________________ It's just advice, do whatever you want with it!

Hmmmm, another twist in the quest for properly tuned Webers! The 200 airs were what was recommended when I started out on this with 115 mains. It has 120 mains in it now. That's a bit better then for 200 airs? What about dropping the vents from 30s to 28s? Any difference I should look for or is this just needless parts changing? Sweet little distributor by the way John, thanks! If this doesn't clear up most of my issues at least I'll be able to take ignition issues out of the equation! |
