I am only going to take beetle out a few more times until it is retired for the season. What do I need to do to properly store him in the garage over the winter months? I am about 1500 miles away from my next oil change and will not be putting that many miles on him.

I always store mine with a fresh oil change and a full tank of stabilized fresh fuel.

I then remove the battery and call it good.

Down here in Florida, it's just the opposite. Bugs tend to disappear in late May, before the BRUTAL summer heat kicks in. October, or the first real cool spell, is when the Bugs and Buses come out of hibernation. Only the most hard-core Bug drivers will still be driving June through September where the heat and humidity are just ridiculous!

Florida is where the stock Bug and Bus heaters are perfectly adequate for winter! As long as everything is hooked up correctly, the stock heater gets the job done.

X2. Change the oil before you park the car for the last time in the season, fill the gas tank with fresh gas but put Staybil or and equivalent product in the tank first so it mixes. Run the car for about 15 minutes or the trip back from the gas station so the Staybil/gas mixture gets through your entire fuel system.

Remove your battery, don't store it on a bare concrete floor and I like to place a trickle charger on my stored batteries once a month for a few hours.

I just start mine once a week, regardless of weather. If the roads are crappy with salt, the driveway will do, other once a round the block. I you are storing where you don't have access, then do the battery removal, etc. thing...

FYI, stock air cooled heaters get the job done in the frozen North as well! The key is as you stated, "everything is hooked up correctly"

Storage?? Why?? It's in your garage right? As mentioned back it out and start it every week and take a short drive, just don't do it when the roads are covered with salt slush. A little cold weather exercise is good for cars. Much much better than sitting and becoming mouse palaces!!

To quote drscope's famous saying.... JUST DRIVE IT!!!

If you are going to drive it or even start it during the winter, at least take it on the road until the oil temps get good and warmed up. Maybe for an hour at freeway speeds. That will help keep condensation from happening in the crankcase.

The weather is not always gonna be crappy you will have some days when you are totally able to get the car and drive it. Drive it. I live in the high country here yes it snows but heck not every day. With two cars I have I drive them...
