it seems like i'm going to need another warning light, we just had the pop up roof, pop up while we were going along Rolling Eyes
luckily we'd only just pulled out of a junction when it happened
it could have happend on the road before when we were doing 40 or more Mad

I drove my Westy with the roof popped for about 5 miles at 60mph !!! I was wondering why people in other cars were turning their heads when they passed me.

Check this thread about halfway down for my solution - stout rubber ski straps.

When you put up the top simply place a cardboard reminder sign on the steering wheel. On the sign it could have a list of all the stuff that could be forgotten: poptop, bikes fastened,kids,wife,dog...

I put A " boom not in cradle switch" on my old 78 Westys poptop. I now use two Velcro straps I got from West marine on my 87. When I pop the top I put them on my steering wheel so they won't get lost. They just make me feel safer that the top isn't going to pop up while underway. On the 78 the switch/light was put on by request of it's new owner. The switch is used on bucket trucks as a safety feature.

Here's another thread on the topic.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=301847

I know there are a couple other threads too, but I can't find them. It's been done before, although I can't imagine that anyone would forget to latch their roof down and drive off.

those ski thongs and/or velcro left on the steering wheel would be a great idea. Alas the Riviera's don't have the compatability.

Bad week(s) can be a royal pain. Hopefully things get better for you. I think I need a flight pilot's list and a shut down list Laughing

I pulled out with the hatch up, as I was backing up I was thinking what a great view out the back.... Wow, pop popped.

In the motorhome I have to remember the sat dish, have pulled away with that raised.

I did it on my '71 many years ago. Didn't get too far thru the campground before I figured out something wasn't quite right. And that was before I got older and contracted CRS. Laughing Laughing

Took this advice from the other thread about a year ago...I ALWAYS remember to drop the top because I stuff the straps right in front of the speedometer.

Do it.

I think rubba's top popped unexpectedly. I don't think he forgot to take it down. You must hear that loud click to know it is locked down. Both the ski straps and/or velcro are added security to prevent a pop up. I used to hang on my Westy bar to get the latch set! Any bit of canvas in the way tho can prevent the lock down. I always did and still do on the Riviera a walk around to make sure no fabric astray.
