I wondered the same thing a while back. I go this in the "67" topic. "School me on the 1967 one year only stuff"
Looks like 67-68 are the same.
I think VW stopped adding the extension spouts to the tray drains after 1968.

As the air filter is looking the same for the 67 and 68 model years they share the same rain tray. That's what I saw on a 68 vert a few years ago. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture to confirm that. Someone maybe does?
I can confirm you on the other hand that the later years used a different rain tray. |
1967 has 2 snorkels with small hoses (2) 1968 has 2 snorkels ,but only 1 large hose on right / passenger side that uses hose same size as the ones from fan housing to heatbox.
rain tray is same 67/68 |

Bill is 100% correct 67/68 air cleaners are different. 2 small preheater tubes on a 67, one big fat one on a 68, to initiate the start of the fat chicks.  |

First picture is the 68 convertible I owned for 20+ years. Also, in picture you can see the rain tray. Notice the difference between the air cleaners. No small pre-heat tubes like on the 67 air cleaner, just one large tube.

I have a 74 that I have dressed as. 67 by swapping rear fenders, light and other stuff. I found a clean 67 deck lid on craigslist local. Will it fit my 74 standard? Thanks

No, you'll have to swap the apron.
If you're sticking with the decklid stand offs it would be easier to just run a 68 or 69 decklid if you want the earlier no vent look.

It simply a modified 58-63 lid with punched louvers.
Punching in louvers are a popular kustom touch for some of us.
Its an old hot rod thing..

| for anyone dealing with australian cars, they had round bottom engine lids with T handles up until the end of the 67 model. |

Henry, the last of the Aussie 67s had push button latches, but decklid was unchanged otherwise

| it must have only been for a very short time, I don't think I've seen more than 10 6V cars with push button lids in 19 years. (several of those were obviously imported cars too) |

It was, only the last few months of production, you see far more 67s with T handles than push button but they are out there.

Hello Guys , Is the Bentley reference Is Accountable For that
I have A 1963 Bug which Said to 1964 Model or the ( Late 1963 Model )
I know the Hood , Deck lid , Rear Fenders , Doors are All Original
And i Have the T-handle Along with the Wide Nose ,
Also the Hood has the Plinth ( Raised Circle For the Emblem ) Which Matches the Late 1963 Models , But the Chassis Number Is Earlier than the Bentley Reference For the Deck Lid Nose Changes ?!!
I know For sure What has been Changed On that Car ?
So I there something wrong the the Bentley reference here ? |

Earlier someone posted that the easiest way to distinguish a 1967 deck lid from a later one was to measure it, but they did not post the measurement you would be looking for. If you measure the inside centerline from the leading edge near the hinge spring to the trailing edge near the latch (straight across, not wrapped around the outside surface),
a '67 is 29-3/4" long. The later ones are about 3" shorter. |

Good write up, the only part I spotted that is wrong:
70 and 71 Cabriolets use their own unique decklid
4 vent pattern same as 72 onwards sedan but with an even amount of slots.
sedans used 1 less slot on the center vents.
Edit: one other valid point is the rain drip tray in late bugs was only fitted in 1970 models when it comes to sedans, Cabs used them but from when to when I got NFI.
They were dropped in 71 as they blocked to much air flow for the bigger doghouse fan.
Any you see fitted to 71 and later bugs are PO additions. |
Not sure if this has been brought up -- but the 70/71 vert pattern is 7/7/7/7 vents. In '72 that changed to 7/6/6/7 vents (for vert and sedan) -- actually 2 fewer slots in the middle than the 70/71 vert vent.
I wonder why they reduced the number of vents in '72 -- only to add additional vent under the plate light assy -- or with the 8/6/6/8 config of the later brazil bugs. |

Looks like the engine lid is bent, and the spring mount messed up as well. Do you have the other end of that two-piece spring hooked as shown here?

| Yes but it keep turning or twisting a little bit,I have straighting and it keeps twisting where it hooks behind deck lid,hope you can understand that if not I can get another pic tomorrow |

| I've seen many late decklids through 1975, and none had that flap behind the license plate. I always wondered what the round indentation was for. The flap sounds like one of those special order options. It seems like a lot of trouble to go to for such a small opening as well. |
