I found this in a box that came with my thing, but I cannot figure out where it goes, or even if its thing specific(cant find a match in the parts book). It looks like some sort of engine tin

looks like the cooling tins between the push rod tubes and the heads

Yes those are heat deflectors for a type IV engine.
They bolt on to the head and case unlike the type I that just snap in between the head studs.
