Hello samba!
I have been a long time lurker of the site for awhile now and a bus came up on my local classifieds and just felt like I had to snatch it right up!
First off let me tell you I am really into photography so there will be plenty of pictures in this build thread.
Plan to get it running and stopping and have a running project as it goes along. I will be enrolled in three Classes that i can use the welding shop at my school to do any body work I need to get done. That adds up to about 15hrs a week. last thing EVERY one at my school knows I am into old vws note my school is about 300 kids. So Everyone is very excited for me that I finally got a bus.
Enough about me now about the bus!
It is a pearl white 67' panel that had windows hacked into it and rear wheels cut and couple previous owners started the resto but I will be the final holder of this beloved bus! I guess it came from Northern AZ before the guy that i got it from so any history would be awesome!
Plan to use it as small advertisement for my photography business and an ICON.
lower rust needs done. any sugestions?
front floor never finished being put in. should i cut to fit make it work or replace full floor instead of 2 sides
some rewire in the near future
FREE CANDY
Any sugestions on finishing the windows new metal redo what?
I for see a new cargo floor
circle in bulkhead cut out for something? any ideas?
it pays for itself
I Made a shift knob out of an old camera lens to fit my taste.
I will be updating as it under see's changes
Will be slow but I am sure i will have the pictures for you.
Very open to any ideas!
Thanks

| Congrats on the bus. I'm glad to hear that you want to get it running and driving and then do some of the cosmetic repairs as time goes along. Take advantage of the school shop. Its nice to have the space and equipment to do the work especially as a student. Good luck with the project. |

Need to loosen up the axle boots and rotate 90 degrees.
Nice shift knob, but suggest getting the stock knob on it. Heavier shift knobs like that will wear out the shift forks in the transaxle.
Try Bustoration.com for the sheet metal.
Would depend on how bad the rest of the front floor is... _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

| From where I sit the cargo floor doesn't look too bad. Patches would be much faster and money saving. It might be worse than the pics show. Show some inner pics of the hacked in window sheet metal. If they used real donor pieces and they have the inner support rib installed I would just finish out what they started. If it doesn't have the inner support rib it might be better to start with correct donor metal cut from a panel or new metal from klassic fab. |

This bus had 3 windows cut into this side. I welded in donor metal from a parts panel bus. You can see the inner supports. If yours doesn't have the supports iI would redo them. The supports will help the long panel from dishing and warping over time. |

looks like your cargo floor just needs a patch, front floor outers look like the way to go, you already have them...
i see some rocker repairs in your future, which will give you opportunity to patch your cargo floor on the driver side.
fix the wiring, so you don't set thing on fire when you install the motor. (gotta get one of those) _________________ regards

x2 the only other thing i would add or suggest is go get some 3/4" plywood and put it under your jack stands for a better and safer base.
congrats again. _________________

wheel wells look good from a mile away.
as far as wiring goes, better is always better, but, knowing myself, i would probably try to fix it first, though.
cargo door hacks look "serviceable". on the panel i would probably make some improvements. _________________ regards

You should consider whether or not to put windows back in the cargo doors (see the classifieds for panel camper windows that will fit the hole size) or get kombi cargo doors with the windows in them. For a young inexperienced driver not having windows there makes for a real big blind spot that can be hazardous, even with a mirror on the passenger side door hinge. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

think i can just put those supports in or would you think still trying to find bus cut outs with them? like these?

The part from your classified link would work for the doors and horizontals of the long panel... but not the vertical on the long panel.

| NOT trying to be rude but welding in the panel windows is a very tricky JOB !!!! tons of tack welds making sure your heat does not warp the panel a butt weld on a sheet steel panel like that is for an experienced welder. SO get some help before you attempt that fix or it could end up BAD. looks like a good Project!!!! |
