On my 70' the clutch engages at the very end of the pedal, so when letting the clutch out it starts engaging the past inch or so. It doesn't seem to slip too much, maybe a little bit. Also sometimes when shifting into 1st or 2nd the entire car shakes pretty bad when letting out the clutch. Does this mean it's at the end of the clutch? Is it worth adjusting or is it time for a new one?

Thanks, I'm pretty new to VWs

How much is your free play? Have you done an adjustment?

Juddering is usually a sign that the flywheel needs to be resurfaced (probably due to the clutch slipping "maybe a little bit". Adjust free play to 3/4" at the top of the pedal and try it out.

It's kind of hard for me to explain, I'm not a pro at driving a stick, just pretty good. I haven't adjusted it yet. I found a picture on Google Images so I know it looks different than a VW. Where it says "Pedal Freeplay", where the line is for the pedal in just a little bit, that's where the clutch starts to engage, and drive the car. So it goes 90% of the way out until it "grabs"

I would suggest taking it to a local VW shop and have them inspect your Bowden tube and also the transmission mounts. Then they will adjust the freeplay or change out the clutch cable.

Since you are new to VWs, tell them that you will pay extra to watch them inspect it and adjust it. Then you will know how to do it and what to look for.
