his is how you do it for a daily driver i'll post the other video of how to do it for a show piece another day
all you do is bend the tab on the bottem that holds the rubber in straight press the rubber to the top , position it in place , then use pliers to bend the tab back to fit the rubber as shown. makes it easy takes very little time and works in 5 degree or less weather as shown here _________________

OK. For anyone out there who has never done this job before, DO NOT follow his lead.
There is no need to bend the entire channel wide open, nor is there a need to CRIMP IT BACK FOR THE ENTIRE LENGTH!
If you take the time to go all around the channels, get them nice and straight, and CLEAN, the new seal will slip into place in a third of the time it took you to install it. Warm that rubber up in the sunshine, a pan of hot water, or in front of the wood stove. Spray a little soapy water in the channel, and slide it on through. Simple and quick.
Then, crimp only the ENDS of the channel, and maybe a spot or two in the field. It'll stay put, and the next time you have to change that seal you won't get a migraine headache. _________________ Confusious say it takes it takes two wipes to know you need three, but it takes three wipes to know it only needed two. |

Also, get a rope, chain, strap or anything you have at hand and get that tranny held up into place. You are bending the shit out of the rear shift coupler letting it sit like that. _________________ Confusious say it takes it takes two wipes to know you need three, but it takes three wipes to know it only needed two. |

Wow!?!
Some tips, using a product like Windex on the rubber and the channel will allow for an easier install. At 5:33 in the video you cut the seal, that is incorrect. You are supposed to slide the seal into the rear apron first with equal lengths sticking past the apron. Then, as you're installing the apron you slide the seal into the side channels. NO cutting involved. Also you should know that when you slide it engine back in one flap of the seal goes above and one below. _________________ __________

^^^ I always cut them. If done right, it works just fine. Getting that shit to all slide into place during apron install is a job calculated to make you mean. ^^^you may cut yours but that doesn't mean that's correct...if you follow your directions about cleaning the channels and use a little Windex the seal will slide right in. _________________ __________

Not too concerned about correctness with a late beetle DP 1600 in my 70 Savannah Beige adventure wagon with a Riviera poptop and partial Westy interior.
I have tried it your way more than once. No matter how clean and slick I got things, it always felt like pushing on a rope. A couple of nice clean cuts with a razor blade and all was fine.
I usually use my spray bottle of degreaser for lube. Silglyde would work good, too. Or anything slippery that doesn't stay that way in perpetuity (grease, oil, whale blubber, etc.). _________________ Confusious say it takes it takes two wipes to know you need three, but it takes three wipes to know it only needed two. |

I gotta do this again on my other bus i'll try it the other way on that one..
which tool do i need to move the sill uniformly. Which tools will i need?
boy am looking scruffy..haha do you think i should grow a full beard? _________________

No need to move or bend anything on that channel unless it has been bent in. If so, gently pry it open and make it smooth. I like to bend open the very start of the channel just a little so that the seal doesn't tend to catch on it while it slides into place.
Warm rubber and plenty of lube are your friends for insertion. (wow, that sounds amazingly sexual) _________________ Confusious say it takes it takes two wipes to know you need three, but it takes three wipes to know it only needed two. |
