Bought a set of replacement seats from i I’ve for my 65 beetle - were told they were a direct fit replacement - they’re not it looks like they don’t slide over the existing rails but instead bolt directly to the floor - so how do I remove the existing floor rails |

Leave your original ones in place. The aftermarket ones suck, the metal is much thinner & they tend to fatigue & fail. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

cut off wheel then grind of remaining
sawsall or pnuematic saw then grind of remaining
spot weld cutter, then grind off remaining
you may be able to leave the horizontal part of the rails on the pan, and simply re move the upper part of the rails
beware grinders and cut off wheel throw sparks, which can ruin upholstery, paint, even pit window glass, protect every thing!
for me, Id return the seats, and obtain correct ones rather than modify the pan
another option is to secure a plate using standoffs over the rails, say with bolts to the pan, and to that plate attach the seat, or maybe stand offs alone will work with no plate. for me I would do what will work with minimum pan alterations, if the rails can stay, say by using stand offs, that is what I probably would try.
what kind of seats are these, got a link to the seller, or maker?

If the seats you bought 'bolt down' rather than use the more common pan-mounted rails, they must be from a 'custom' (stripped-down) model. Those seats would be somewhat desireable on the re-sale market. So ....I agree, get a set of proper rail-style seats, rather than chopping up your floor pans. My 2 cents. (oops ....can't say that anymore ....we don't use pennies in Canada!) _________________ "If you can't fix it with pop rivets, crazy glue and duct tape, or hold it together with zip ties, velcro or magnets, it REALLY is broken." |
