Anybody out there have or know where to get, review as to what was "Hot" , what were VW Beetle owners doing, adding on in the 1970's. I don't want what's available NOW, but what was (original) "Hot" back then.

Turbos seemed to be the rage. Fancy graphics on the Bugs was also a big thing back then. I know, I lived it. I have a 40 year collection of Hot VWs and many VW Trends magazines too! lots of cool ideas in them. Hot chicks too!, maybe not so hot anymore.

I have most of my Hot VWs issues, and the gals there were usually OK, but a little "overinflated" in the bust. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. I got hold of a number of 70’s VW magazines, and there were a lot of kit car bodies. 1930’s Fords, Rolls Royce, etc. They were very cheap. In fact, all the parts were cheap.

Mr. Cussers car is the real deal I can attest that.
The 70's was kinda a hay day for the VW crowd. Cheap VW's at give away prices. Engine rebuilds for hundred not thousands. Good German parts abound. Mulholland fiber glass kits. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.
Numbers Matching VW's are getting harder to find. Source out the most Stock vehicle and keep that way. You will be glad you did.

Visit the cal-look threads- the earlier the better
What comes to mind immediately:
Flared fenders and oversize tires.
American mag wheels on adapter plates.
Biscuit and or houndstooth interiors
pinstriping
murals
zoom tubes
street Baja kits _________________

| Some great post/replies and I also did my growing up in the 70s, Began collage in 1969. I like the idea of picking up some old VW Mags and seeing what the advertisers were offering. As for the "Kit" cars, the Bajas,.....I am thinking for of the add-ons that would keep my 72 somewhat more "original", that is for the year itself. Thanks to everyone responding. |

An art major I see, might want to go with the pinstriping or mural then. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |
