Getting motivated to get back working on this Van before Winter settles in.

I ordered self/soft close drawer slides and they arrived today.

In the space where the refrigerator was I'm making pull out drawers.

Swept the chimney, cleaned the gutters, cut back thorns blew some leaves and cleaned up dog poop this afternoon before the rains come.

Fall has fallen and while I've raked and blown away most of the mess, I just noticed that my Van needs some attention before the snow flies and the ice forms!

I think Dave is comfortable with his life choices and his assigned gender, but thanks for asking.

Yes, my Van project did grind to a halt.
Real life events have cropped up and life has become a long series of Dr visits, lab visits and Hospital stays with my Wife.
After working the day, keeping on top of the yard and house, cooking dinner and cleaning up plus taking care of her as needed......... there just isn't much energy left I'm afraid.

Not complaining, it is what family does. After 55 years together you don't just cut and run ...... unless you're a giant schmuck!

Nothing big, the temperatures have plunged so the Van sits in the cold waiting for me to pull the engine. ( Keep in mind this is NOTHING like the upper midwest cold snap!)

But...... I've wanted a small 12v air compressor to carry, just because.
My new work van has a slow tire leak and it is a PITA to keep pulling out the compressor, run an extension cord, plug it in and then put it all away.

I thought....."time to get that small compressor!"
I got one from Harbor Freight today, I know there are probably better ones out there but this one was on the shelf waiting for me today.......
it looks nice..... here's to hoping it works a good as it looks!

That likely will be fine for light duty.

Used it this morning, it took a tire from completely flat to 40 psi in a matter of minutes.
Very Pleased with the test run. Hopefully this is the last time I'll ever need it!
Got some new tires this afternoon.

It will live under the bench seat in the Van....

When all the ladies in the house drove…home…college..first work…. Put a cheapie in the trunk. After 20muses I would donate to the next flat tire I saw and pumped up and buy a new one

At home, it’s the big boy or the Greenworks portable

You’ll hear the motors on the Harbor Fright ones start to fart the futon.

Dave

Great tip Dave. I’ve been using a VIAR for years. I pack it in the buses/vans for long trips or when I might be getting into soft sand or mud situations so I can lower the tire pressure. I opted for the battery style connection over the cig lighter because I’m not fully confident in the 72 bus wiring. My wife’s BMW had no flat tires and no spare tire. The no flat tires left her stranded. I changed the tires to regular tires because no flat tires suck. With this pump I could probably limp it close to a tire shop on my travels. Or at least closer so AAA could tow me to a shop. I would think the Harbor Freight one would work just fine.

Taking her car on a long trip to California today. I’ll pack it. Thanks for reminding me Wink

OK!
We have a plan......

Tomorrows forecast ...... morning showers followed by warm afternoon temperatures near 60°. Saturday dry but a bit cooler.

That transmission is going to be in the garage by the time the snow flies on Monday morning! ....... (I hope)

Well, the plan ended in action!

The afternoon forecast was for partly Sunny and mid to upper 50's.

Job #1 was figuring out where I stopped months ago.
It took a bit of time but I finally grasped where I was......

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Within 90 minutes the engine was out.
Yes, I could have pulled the whole engine/trans as a unit but each piece is lighter than the whole...... and I'm old and weak...... 🥺🤦‍♂️

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I did experience a mishap on removal, I broke a bipple off of the thermostat housing.
I may have a used one or I'll spring for a new aluminum one. Trouble with that is I need to get the threaded senders too...... 🤷‍♂️

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Transmission waiting to come out.......

And finally the transmission is out!

Oh, BTW ..... That weather forecast?
Lies! All lies!
It did reach 50° but it was cloudy and foggy, I could see the fog wisps blow by my lighting when I was under the Van!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Tomorrow I'm going to clean that transmission and get it in the shop for a rebuild.
I'll pull that broken thermostat housing as well.
The engine needs a good wash down too while it is out.
I have welded fuel injection manifolds to put on in place of my home made threaded ones..... just because.

I also have a new throttle cable to install, that old plastic mount to the frame is long gone broken.

I ordered coolant pipe brackets from Jeffry Lee And need to get them screwed on too.

They forecast sunny but low to mid 40's for Saturday...... let's see what lies come tomorrow?
