Nonononono

You mount an adapter to the cooler and pressurize it with shop air. What a loser this guy is.

It would be better, if while in the water, plug one hole with your finger, then run some LP air through the other hole and check for bubbles.

I can’t find my oil cooler because it’s covered with snow. Googling “snow covered oil cooler” doesn’t help. Is there any expertise out there?

Idea I have seen a guy use a leaf blower to clear snow off a bus. Perhaps a leaf blower can be used to search for it? Cool

compressed air only gets you covered in oil and water and its air cooled..although it may be be funny to watch a noob someone blow air in it and get covered with oil and water. lol the theory is if it fills full of water the oil in the cooler will push the water out as the oil is a different density than water..
works great to check out old oil coolers..I highly reccomend changing those seals in the adapter before installing.. and if you see the cooler bubbling you can use a brass weld or epoxy to fix it like a radiator if you want too.. up to you

That search just brings up turbochargers for Nissans

Put the dry oil cooler into the same container but without water in it. Fill the cooler with solvent and walk away. Whe you come back in 15 or 20 minutes you will know if the cooler has a leak. Bonus ... when you pour out the solvent you will see how much gunk is inside the oil cooler and then decide if it is clean enough to use on a new engine build.

What you need is an O-kooler Black Hound. They are trained to sniff out hidden oil coolers and other parts. Here is one pointing out a rare vacuum can.

Since the oil cooler sees 80-100 psi on a winter's morning startup, then check it with air at the same pressure. You can just spray the cooler with soapy water if you want to be able to see bubbles. With the way you are doing it, you could easily miss a minor and maybe even a fairly major leak.

for those that might find this thread in the future, ^^^^^PLEASE DO NOT DO ANYTHING MENTIONED IN THIS POST (except changing the seals between the cooler and adapter, that is one sane suggestion). bad oil coolers should be scrapped, period.

buy or make an inexpensive OIL COOLER PRESSURE TESTER, you know, like VW recommends and even made a special tool to check coolers. you can even adapt it so you can use a bike pump to pressurize it.

tester made of scrap aluminum block and about $10 worth of other materials:

Wait a minute, how can you sniff vacuum? This sounds suspicious.

That is what makes their skill so amazing. Smile I've got one right now behind me fluffing the carpet, they do it all over the house - fluff the carpet then lay down in the middle of where they were fluffing - maybe the house was built on a landfill of old oil coolers.
