Ok, I've spent the required number of hours using the search button and chasing a Mt. Everett (just kidding!) sized pile of dead photo links (seriously y'uns need to stop linking your photos from your TicToc/Youtube/ and /Myspace pages...) but I'm not finding any "good" detail pics of a 1956 (November-'55) engine lid side prop bracket on the lid, and no, THIS is not a GOOD pic ...

maybe its the same as a barndoor one, because "good" pics of them are sooo easy to find as well, lol
mine is of course missing and I was about to copy one off a random "early" lid but the paint area around where my bracket used to be is literally half the expected size of the usual pre -63 lid prop bracket, any help would be greatly appreciated but seriously, don't link your pic from your Google photodumpstercloud or whatever the kool kids are using this week,
THANKS!

Ummmm, yeah, thanks for helping me read that 70 pages of WORDS about decklids, the best PHOTOGRAPH in your search resulted in this pic. being the ONLY photo of a somewhat early prop mount and its lacking a bit in the detail department, not to mention its not an inner seamed multi part stamped inner brake light decklid :

perhaps I should specify that I require precise measurements in mm or a photo thats taken less than 6 feet away from a 1956 decklid, not a 1967 or a 1962 or a 1979 or a beetle decklid, OR if its the same as a barndoor, a simple yes and or a detail pic of a barndoor prop would help, I'm not trying to stick weld a 67 prop spring assembly onto a random ratty piece of scrap lid,
Thank you again oh wise and ancient order of bus wizards

Looks to me it is what it is to make a 90 degree angle from this photo found in a March 1956 owners manual easily found on this website?

Even goes into great detail in one sentence how it's suppose to operate.

How's this? From my Dec '55-built deluxe. Let me know if you need any other angles or anything. Good luck with your project!

THANK YOU Wade and Everett, you have restored my faith in humanity !!!!!
Awesome fresh pics of the item in question,
In my research it is obvious that from Wolfsburg non-barndoors till '59 the engine decklid hatch pivot bracket was tiny in comparison to the '60-'63 style bracket, its barely wider than the weld nut itself, I'm curious now if the early style is the same on Barndoor Ambulances and pickups ... but thats next episode of tales from the riverbank

if anyone else needs an early '55-'59 or a '60-'63 pivot mount tab there are several places making nice replacements:

For completeness, the Barndoor decklid mount is huge so it's different and very sturdy.

My POS, you can sort of see it:

NOS decklid, see left side:

Not the best close-ups but if anyone needs a detailed pic, I have a loose NOS Barndoor decklid I can dig out

....blah blah whine blah.

Looking at that search, in a minute I found this thread, which has a better pic or two:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=60185

Pretty sure I could find more info and spoon feed it to you, if I spent time on it.
Sorry for trying to help you find the info.

Well... I updated that thread since it was in the FAQ after I searched and found some of the pics above.

Yeah I swore Wade's fresh pics of his SWR '55 Wolfsburg decklid were not there the first time I combed thru that 5 page thread!
We are making it easier for the next idiot who's bad at searching one repetitve thread after another! Yay!
maybe add a barndoor ambulance and pickup type for progressive refinements sake,
my new life goal is to publish a photo annotated edition of Progressive Refinements for Bus and Beetle, in hardcover ...
