Hello all,I'm looking to install 3 point front seat belts in my 69 Fastback. The PO upholstered over the pillar mounting holes. I can feel the mounting hole is there but am hesitant to pock a hole there to mount the shoulder part of the belt.I would like to know what size and type of bolt is used to mount the belt to the pillar.I want to make sure I have the right parts before I start and that these mounting bolts available? Thanks _________________ 64 Beetle |

Didn't your belt kit come with bolts? _________________ Current Fleet:

Most seat belt kits come with 7/16ths-20 bolts and nuts, and washers sized for that size bolt. At least the last 4 belt kits that I've bought came that way.
They came with two 7/16-20 bolts, nuts, lock washers, and huge flat washers per belt assembly. I think the bolts were 1.5 inches long. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thanks for the reply.I haven't purchased the belts yet(J Bugs).I have lap belts now that came with bolts to mount to the floor but those mounting points don't really require the belts to pivot.I want to go with 3 point belts for safety. On my 69 Fastback the pillar mounting hole where the shoulder part of the 3 point belts mount have been covered up with upholstery by the PO.I inserted a small probe in that mounting hole today to make sure it was a threaded,it is threaded.I know there are mounting bolts that come with the new set of belts but I beliece the shoulder or piller mounting point of the belts requires a shoulder bolt so that part of the belt can piviot without coming loose. Not sure if thats correct but I want to make sure I can find all the right parts before I order the belts.J Bugs has a sale on now so I need to order soon. Thanks for your patience. _________________ 64 Beetle |

So, buy a 7/16-20 bolt to try in the B pillar! _________________ https://imgur.com/user/FisherSquareback/posts

Thanks for the information on the shoulder bolt located in the parts list you sent.I didn't know original lists like that were avaiable. Yeah, the seat belt bolts are the only American (SAE) hardware on the car. This is because seat belts were mandated in the USA in 1966 before any other country required them. If your car is early early, then you'll need the threaded adapter (WW sells them) to screw into the factory holes (I had to do that on my 64 T-34). Most times these adapters were used on the tunnel and "B" post (shoulder mount). If you're adding 3 point belts, you'll have to drill a hole in the floor for the 3rd mounting point and use the hardware that comes with the belt kit(2 large washers for sandwiching the floor, the end of the belt, the nut and lock washer, and the bolt itself). I hope this helps. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

You should be good to go then. Just check the metal around where you intend to mount the lower mounting for the belt, to make sure it's nice and solid (for safety sake, as you don't want it ripping out). _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof
