Ah, yes, reading glasses. Which strength? They will tell you 2.50--maybe; maybe not as it depends on what distance you like to have the work/book at. Bright light is essential. Remember the you will have fixed focal length lenses in you eyes for the first time in you life and it is very different. What's in focus at 12" will be fuzzy at 18" What is in focus at 18" will be fuzzy at 30". The longer the focal length, the less difference it will make. Unfortunately, when gapping a compression ring, you need 12" period. But when you look away to find the compression clamp, the whole world has gone crazy and fuzzy.
Get a bunch of glasses at the dollar store of different strength and see what you like. Put tape on the temple with the magnification so you know which is which. Once you know, go to CVS or the equivalent and get some you like for $15.
Then the question is where are they when you need them? For non critical work progressives are far better and they can hang around your neck. This is what I use, but note how trashed the lenses are from epoxy and sparks.
Food also seems to find its way on the lenses as well. But the problem is they have to perch on the end of my nose to be able to see over them which is not satisfactory. The old style of bridge raised above the lenses like Franklin or our grannies had no longer seem to be available.

The Amazon ones might work. It's all about how they fit on the nose and where the tops of the glasses are at that point. However, they are narrow from top to bottom and to get progressives that isn't much distance.

Hey there, just a heads up...
I know you've been pretty much discussing your eye surgery but in regards to letting your vehicle sit for any extended length of time.
A battery cutoff switch is a great idea.
But a much less expensive and easy to do fix is to just remove the negative connection like previously mentioned. No completed circuit means no current draw on your battery.
Although batteries WILL be subject to losing a charge while on a shelf/totally disconnected, it takes a long time for that to happen normally. The initial condition of the battery would affect that.

To my mind, a $10 switch in the negative lead is FAR easier than actually removing the negative lead from the battery every time I want to disconnect - which isn't just when mothballing the van, but every time I want to work on the electrics. I do leave a 5A fuse across that to allow the clock to continue working - as remembering to change the time is also a PITA. _________________ Jim Crowther
