Hi all...

Did a search, but came up empty handed.

I have my 1-5/8" 4 into 1 exhaust on my sand rail. It will be a 2276 when completed.

The headers were chromed when I bought it and I have bead blasted the chrome as it was rusted in some places. I want to paint it probably satin black.

What's the best "paint" to do the job?

Thanks in advance!

Dan

I've used POR high temp manifold paint with success on non VW cars. They have a flat black I do believe.

If you have a gas bbq put some alum foil down and bake it in there when you are done to cure the paint.

Sherwin Williams makes a high temp black paint that ive used for years on anything from headers to wood burning stoves.
Recently i tried some cerekote on a header , id probably suggest it as itd be easier to find and purchase than Sherwin Williams high temp

Yes 100% get it clean and something to bite on.

I had really good luck with Krylon K01707077 High Heat on my bbq restoration at first it was really uneven and looked terrible. I did like 5 heat cycles to set the paint it looks kick ass now got more shiny and even as time went on. The key is to heat it till it smokes and stop let cool repeat at least 5 times I got a great bond. Been outside for a year now paint is perfect, I don't cover it. Never been over 600F but it claims 1200F. I just finished a custom muffler for the gas powered rock flinger, I'm going to try it on that this weekend I bet it will hold up fine.

I found that most bbq paint are so very flat looking. The VHT looks like it was professionally applied. One of my blue headers.

I’ve tried VHT and the Rustoleum. I’ve only had short term success with both. I’ve painted and installed as well as curing in the BBQ and installed. I’ve found they’ve only last about a year and then require a repaint. Maybe I’m just bad at it. 🤷‍♂️ no issues with using it on engine tin, only headers and quite packs. I’ve since switch to Stainless, less of a headache.

I find frequent repaint is required for best results. all the types I have tried do eventually fail.

I just ordered five different color samples from Creakote. Should have them Saturday.

It looks like the best option from a DIY standpoint. I'll let you all know how it covers. I watched a guy Creakote a set of long tube Corvette headers and he said that from a pint, he had almost half of it left over.

Worth a try for $80/pint.

Thanks for all the input and recommendations, Dan

Caterpillar has an excellent high heat black in spray cans. Works well. I just did a quick Google search and was able to find it.

House of Kolor used to have an outstanding high heat black. It dried to a really nice satin black. I still have some. I don't think they make it anymore.

I have been wanting to try Cerakote.
