Hello, I'm rewiring my KG and need some help identifying some wiring terminals and what they do - I removed the fuel tank and I think I'm looking at wiring for the brake lights - if so is that a positive and negative terminal? also is that brake fluid in the container?
in the other pictures I have wires not connected to anything coming down the steering column - these are disconnected - I'm wondering what these may have been?
I'm going to rewire using the Rebel wire vw deluxe kit - so starting fresh and hopefully can route everything without having to go through the steering column etc.. Thanks in advance
Best
James

The brake light switches are non-polar, meaning there is not a + or -. They're interrupt switches. Power comes from the fuse panel to the switch, then from the switch to the brake lights. Pressing the pedal makes the connection to turn the brake lights on, releasing the pedal breaks the connection to turn the brake lights off. _________________ Currently own:

Thankyou so much for explaining that so simply - I really appreciate it as I'm learning as I'm going.
Any idea what the unconnected cables could be through the steering column? I'm trying to identify all the points so not to miss anything.
All the best

one in the steering shaft connects to horn button, loose end connects to steering box shaft _________________ Pres. Rivercity VW Club www.rcvwclub.org

There shouldn't be any wires tucked around the grommet between the firewall and the steering column. Likely the grommet has failed and these extra wire are some improper attempt at getting the horns to work.

| Thankyou for your reply - I was thinking to pull these wires out and was planning on routing things differently - they're definitely getting pinched in there |

Also, have you looked at the wiring harness diagram for your year?
Here's a link to the Ghia page: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiringghia.php
The wiring for the horn can be a bit tricky and is not detailed on any wiring harness diagram so check out this link. It was very helpful to me: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=566567
I installed a new wiring harness from Wiring Works which had super detailed instructions. It was time consuming because I was a newbie and double checking my work but not impossible. _________________ 2019 Golf Alltrack, '65 Ghia Coupe Restoration in Progress |

| Thankyou so much for your reply - I'm gut renovating the wiring and putting in a rebel vw universal harness - trying to get my head around it all! - bit by bit. |
