Does your car suffer from “lazy” brake lights, due to your disc brake conversation or a poor-quality OE-style hydraulic brake light switch? Our brake pedal actuated brake light switch can wake them up! This switch mounts to your 1958+ Type I / III pedal assembly, hidden from view behind the accelerator pedal. It triggers your brake lights on as soon as the brake pedal is moved forward, immediately alerting traffic that you intend to slow. Fast brake light activation time is your best defense again being rear-ended.
Our switch is designed to be used in conjunction with the original master-cylinder mounted hydraulic brake light switches. This kit does not require permanent modification to your vehicle: it mounts to the pedal assembly using the rear-most mounting bolt. Wiring uses OE-style quick-disconnect terminals and routes from the interior to the OE fuse box under hood using the OE grommet to the left of the fuse box. Installation is 100% bolt and all required components are included in the kit. This kit fits 1958+ Type 1 / III pedal assemblies: installation instructions cover 1961-77 Beetle, 1971-79 Super Beetle, 1958-1974 Karmann Ghia and 1973-1974 Thing.
Unfortunately, this kit does not fit a Type II or right hand drive (RHD) Type I or III
It is sized for 12V systems using OE 12V 1156/1157 brake light bulbs, but works best when coupled with modern LED bulbs. Can be used on a 6V application only with LED bulbs.
