Up for sale to a true VanLifer or avid off-grid camper - 1989 Vanagon GL with 252,000 original miles. Current engine was replaced at 127, 000 miles and runs perfectly. This Westy has every upgrade you would ever need. This van was one of the first GoWesty (GW) builds done in 2005 and original cost was $43,000. It has a 5 speed manual transmission, standard Vanagons have a 4-speed transmission. Shift this van into 5th gear and leave your van buddies behind as you relax at 75/80 MPH. First gear is a crawling gear and it’s gone everywhere my friends Syncro has gone!
I purchased this van in (second owner after the GW rebuild) and have done through many upgrades since then. , worked for nearly three years at S.D. Westy and did the following upgrades:
GW 2450cc engine, water jackets replaced (head gaskets) at 227k miles using GoWesty rebuild kit due to a cold weather drip (so essentially rebuilt). GoWesty engines currently $7,300.
GW Fuel Injection Kit ($3,400).
New clutch w/new master & slave cylinder & new rear main seal, flywheel, new steering rack & power steering pump w/stainless steel line, water pump, thermostat & housing, brake fluid reservoir, GW high torque starter, new alternator, fuel pressure regulator, tie rods, power steering reservoir, drive joint cap & seal and tons more.
GW Bigger Brake kit ($599).
GW Stainless Steel coolant pipes.
Bilstein Heavy Duty shock absorbers.
GW zero lift kit (springs), everyone thinks it’s a Syncro.
