50+ years owned 1963 authentic Ragtop Beetle Baja Price: 12500
|
Here is a very special offering for sale, an original 1963 Ragtop Beetle turned Baja in the late 60's (likely about 1968 was when converted). The owner Carl Klaus was a local legend around Chicagoland in this VW. He would cruise it on the weekends and go to all the shows. It was the thing he owned that brought him the most joy in life. He bought it in the early 70s already as a Baja "Basher" but still in its original L938 Pacific Blue. Carl didn't really care much for the blue color at the time so he and a buddy painted is the orange that it is today. In 1976 he packed up whatever he wanted to bring and moved from FL to Chicago IL. He drove the Baja the whole way up and anything that didn't fit in it, didn't come with…
Carl passed away a few years ago, he was my customer at my shop BeAircooled.com, and as some do, he became a friend. I am selling this awesome car on behalf of his daughter per his last wishes.
There is ZERO rust! And I mean that. As someone who makes a living restoring VWs I hardly ever see any this clean. Yes the body is a Baja now, but you could restore it back to Beetle or enjoy it as is. It truly is a time capsule. Carl was a tinkerer and there are a lot of his handy works present in the wiring, switches and things he added himself in his own way. The engine is a 1600cc with a 34pict3 carb that runs strong and smooth. The exhaust is newer with very few miles on it. The front transmission mount was replaced about 6 years ago. The fuel hoses have been replaced in the last month as I've prepared it for sale.
It does need a front end service the king and link pins are due and the tierods are at their wear limits.
