1972 Porsche 911T Oil Flap – Matching Numbers, MFI, Original Color
In 1972, Porsche introduced an external oil filler cap so the driver could add oil without opening the engine lid. This proved disastrous for many, as the oil filler cap was often confused with the fuel filler cap. Porsche discontinued the system in 1973. This makes the preserved examples, besides being beautiful cars, particularly desirable among collectors and a solid investment.
The car has the original fuel injection: MFI (Mechanical Fuel Injection), a system developed by Bsoch, originally for other car brands, but further developed by Porsche for its excellent throttle response and power output, while also meeting American emissions standards, which were stricter than those in Europe at the time.
With MFI, everything is mechanical and nothing electrical. These days, they are often replaced due to the expertise required to install them. It's quite rare that this one still has MFI.
