Adding my 1978 Champagne Edition II Westfalia to the forum. I have worked on it to get as original as possible. Still in search of the chrome bumpers. Here is my Vin tag and M-Plate.

The ThreadFather™ Returns...

Thank you all for posting your rides! Beautiful CE's and CEII's! It was great to return to thesamba and see so many new additions to the list.

A little recap:
Production numbers are non-existent from the factory as far as we know.

There's the old rumor - who knows how it started: 52 of these were made, 2 were sent to each dealership in North America. I've read it in a couple of places on the forum and elsewhere. I've actually had someone IRL come up and tell me this rumor Rolling Eyes

This thread has absolutely disproven this rumor.
Here's the updated list, lol.

Lots of interesting things here. Not a whole lot of month data submitted by 77 owners. It looks like the Champagne I production occurred in the early months of the year, just like the Champagne II.

For 1978, we now have almost 80 accounted for. Although the number of vehicles that slip through the cracks without getting the last 6 of the VIN puts the number of survivor CE II's closer to 90-100. If a driver doesn't submit the last 6 of the VIN, it can't be added to the list!

Anyway, thanks for participating everyone!

Grew up in a CE2 Westfalia. My parents bought it just before I was born in early '79 off the lot. It had been a demo vehicle, but my Mom thought the dealer's wife had wanted it to camp in.

They had it until 87 or 88 and gave it up because the aux heater failed, and they had a 3rd child (and there were only 4 seatbelts)...

Unfortunately I have no way of finding the VIN or much info, if I come across old photos of it I'll share em though.

Hi all
I just started a Face Book group for VW Champagne Edition bus owners or anyone with an interest in this promotional bus.
Currently I'm the only member so all are welcome to join, would be good to see contributions from other CEII owners Very Happy

Hi ya

I have tried to join that group several times and the owner won't let me? he has a rule that if you belong to more than 30 groups you are denied membership.
Only other groups I could find aren't very active and haven't had posts in a long time.

Friends just told me to start my own

Hey guys I purchased a 1978 Westfalia Champagne Edition this past summer and I have been learning a lot about these unique one year only models.

I’m posting off my phone so I’ll upload some pictures when I’m at my computer but in the meantime my Vin is 112173 IN 3/78 and I guess completed 4/78 judging by the top right corner of the door sticker.

So far I’ve only read the first and last page of this thread but correct me if I’m wrong, it seems to me like there are less than 25 total champagne Westy’s still around.

My bus is in rough shape right now but the interior is mint. Doing all the bodywork this winter with a trusted vw welder and restoration man that I will leave unnamed for now.

I’m hoping to be running and driving again this summer!

I just got this Champagne edition II middle seat . I'm posting here because I'd really like to see it go to someone who needs to complete a CEII interior and I know there aren't many of these out there. If you need it please PM me.

Hello

Looking for information on our Riviera Champagne edition

The chassis number dictates it is a 22 microbus however you see it is a Riviera edition, interior has been changed over the years

Question why is it listed a type 22 and not a Type 23 ?

Did they convert type 22s into Rivieras ?
