How do you mount a WBX to a HF engine stand?

If the bolt holes are too far apart, drill new holes in the back plate closer to the center.

High speed dill bits needed.

I got mine from VintageWorldTools but they seem to not be around anymore.

Don't get a cheap one.. they bend and you'll find the engine on the floor the next morning.

if you have a drill and a grinder, you can make some adapters out of 2'' x 1/4'' plate.
l don't have pictures, but that's what l have done, l don't have space for an extra head for my engine stand, it currently has an inline 4 on it, it's had the occasional EJ22 on it, making adapters made my life easier.

This is how I modified my stand to accommodate a wbx. I drilled new holes in the plate then added thick washers with one side ground out to clearance the back rib of the wbx. Seems to do the trick.

the VW stand adapter allows you to do critical and important work at the flywheel side of the engine, unlike just using the HF arms:

- measure endplay and do the shim shuffle to get it set right

- install oil seal squarely

- install and remove pilot bearings

- bolt up and torque flywheel

- bolt up clutch

in short, it really is a very useful accessory along with an engine stand. otherwise, you're wrassling it around on the floor or sliding it on a bench to do the above tasks.

You can't split the case if you use all 4 mounts. And using just 2 can cause the case flange to snap and drop the engine.

I also have a 4 arm yoke for 911 and Type 4 engines.

Assuming you want to work on the engine then buying the VW Yoke mount is the way to do it.

Or you can be cheap or perhaps halfass lazy like me and mount the engine offset to one side attaching 3 of the 4 bars and still strip the engine down to the case with the exception of the flywheel and then put it on the bench to split the case.
You would not be able to make crankshaft end adjustments or remount the flywheel. That would have to be done on the bench. Maybe you could split the case if you removed the bar mount on the upper right. I don't know if I would want to try it.

You might notice that the right lower bar is not connected as the geometry did not fit.
The engine is secure and it's been on there 5 years until I get around to doing something with it. It is mainly to save shop space and move it easily.

I have no use for my Krebsfer VW 313 engine stand and yoke. I would consider selling, but freight anywhere would be killer. And doesn't answer you question.

This stand was originally intended for air cooled 1600 and smaller. Its designed so you can split the case and rebuild in the stand. I've done a 2.0 on it, but removed the exhaust to lighten the load. Supporting it by only two contact points when you have a larger engine. I suppose a WBX engine would fit. While still completely functional, This tool is more suited for restoration in someones man cave. Getting rare. Porsche realized the problem with only 2 arms and came up with a yoke with multiple arms to better support. The HB one could work fine till you need to split the case. Might get a little awkward at some point.

Sell it through PayPal and use PayPay shipping. Half the cost of walking into a shipper off the street. But... that looks heavy $$$

I have that very same Krebsfer stand that I inherited from my dad. It held my fully dressed WBXer engine just fine.

Is this safe with just the top 2 bolts?

NO!!!

Pick one side and use upper and lower. Also, look at how large the mating surface is on the green stand at each bolt to help spread the load and stress. You will break your case with that set up if you keep adding weight.

On a side note... Is that a CB performance throttle body?

What intakes are those? The ones I had were really narrow at the flange (between the port opening and the edge - around .070") The passenger side sucked in the gasket.

A friend of mine added some metal around the port areas

This is the location where the metal was added (before pic)
