|
|
So my newly acquired '73 Thing coil bracket was made from some kind of water heater straps...and I although I realize people make make parts out of things they have lying around their shop, I'm not a fan.
So I purchased a used coil bracket from one of the Classifieds on here, thinking all coils have the same diameter....WRONG! The one I got is too small. Did I get a 6V coil bracket? The newly acquired bracket has a ID of just over 2", and the coil I have requires just over 2 1/4". I looked into removing the tension screw to open up the bracket, but then I couldn't get the holes in the fan shroud to line up. What kind of specific bracket should I be looking for?

he needs the larger sized bracket for the larger diameter coil. Those aftermarket ones wont work. The larger diameter coils came in 6v & 12v, so its not a matter of being early or late really.
I have a couple of the larger type, but they seem alot less common than the other smaller size clamps. |

Thanks Semper_Dad. I just purchased the bracket Glenn referred me to. If that one doesn't work/fit, I'll hit you up. I may have just started a coil bracket collection! _________________ Dave

FTR, the coil bracket was the original one that came with my car (AM Engine). My replacement Bosch Blue Coil came with its own bracket. _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

And speaking of......The Bosch Blue Coils seem to be very expensive, but I saw this online. Seems a lot cheaper than most I've seen over $100. Your thoughts?
