So my newly acquired '73 Thing coil bracket was made from some kind of water heater straps...and I although I realize people make make parts out of things they have lying around their shop, I'm not a fan.

So I purchased a used coil bracket from one of the Classifieds on here, thinking all coils have the same diameter....WRONG! The one I got is too small. Did I get a 6V coil bracket? The newly acquired bracket has a ID of just over 2", and the coil I have requires just over 2 1/4". I looked into removing the tension screw to open up the bracket, but then I couldn't get the holes in the fan shroud to line up. What kind of specific bracket should I be looking for?

You want this one.

he needs the larger sized bracket for the larger diameter coil. Those aftermarket ones wont work. The larger diameter coils came in 6v & 12v, so its not a matter of being early or late really.
I have a couple of the larger type, but they seem alot less common than the other smaller size clamps.

Thanks Semper_Dad. I just purchased the bracket Glenn referred me to. If that one doesn't work/fit, I'll hit you up. I may have just started a coil bracket collection!

FTR, the coil bracket was the original one that came with my car (AM Engine). My replacement Bosch Blue Coil came with its own bracket.

And speaking of......The Bosch Blue Coils seem to be very expensive, but I saw this online. Seems a lot cheaper than most I've seen over $100. Your thoughts?
