I'm back lol BUG FEVER is contagious
love the name (Javacardo) could be English or Spanish...
In the pictures below it shows the issues I'm having why it's taking me such a long time to pull the trigger lol. Does anyone have any ideas on how I should approach this? Do I need to weld in a new roof first? Can the dents be dollied out? Or just don't do it all inputs welcome

I don’t know much about body work but I definitely think you need to plan to do some repairs the edges don’t go over as far as the damage. Good luck, keep us updated

I was scanning and did not see this answered anywhere or any other comments experience on the "New Style" version of the Legacy kit. It seems to be similar than the Britax, but around $500 less. Anyone? https://www.sunroofsource.com/vw-beetle-35-x-40-sliding-ragtop-folding-sunroof-kit-new-style/

Wow, I'm just now diving back into a project car I started back in 1994 and finally have the ability to get going on again, and man have things changed!
These kits look awesome!
Help me out though... I'm looking at Legacy's website, and there are a lot of options. Which one is closet to the stock VW? Do these vary in quality as well?
I see the one with the paintable fiberglass frame, and I am not into that one.
But, what's the difference between this one: https://www.sunroofsource.com/vw-beetle-35-x-40-sliding-ragtop-folding-sunroof-kit-new-style/
...and the Teto "britax" style kits they also sell?
The "new style" looks to be all brushed aluminum, which is cool by me, and they're on sale for a really nice looking price too, compared to the brazilian ones.
Any exeperience with 'em? |

Hello everyone,
I have been looking into the legacy/Britax style ragtops. Which one is close to the original size? I’ve noticed that most open up all the way back to the rear window. I like the look of the original that leave a good gap between the rear window and the ragtop.
Also, how close to the windshield can I make the opening. I’ve seen some with a large space between the windshield and the cut out and I’ve seen a smaller gap . I prefer the smaller gap. Is it preference or is there some sort of structure that you don’t want to ruin?
Thank you in advance for any information. |

I would think you can move it up, but they recommend 7". I didn't want a oh crap I cut it too close. The stock sun visor sticks out in the open some. The aftermarket one that came with mine I didn't install as I feel it's not needed if you have pop outs. I would go for the largest one you can get because if you don't you will regret it. I would do it all over again as I have been running mine for two weeks. I am updating my build thread with pictures of the install. Hope that helps.

Zodlaw,
Thank you for the response. I love the way yours came out. It is what I am looking at for my 62. Nice and subtle. What size did you order?
Also is it 7 inches to the outside of the frame or 7 inches to the inside of the frame?
Thank you for your help.
