I am rebuilding my rear drum brakes and have a question about the orientation of the automatic adjusters. I currently have the skinny side out and the beveled side out. Is this correct?

There are good pictures, and answers to your questions, in the FAQ if I remember correctly.

Yeah but unfortunately a lot of photos are no longer visible and there's a search for "vanagon brake adjuster + thesamba" returns some unrelated and maybe even unreliable info.

Here's a starting point for your searching https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=655319&start=0

Looking at photos, I am fairly certain that the skinny side, facing the rear of the van, of the adjuster faces out.

The end towards the front of the van is unclear. I have seen some photos with the bevel side out and some with it in. I'm not sure if its critical.

I found this video that goes into detail. I believe my current setup is wrong but at least I have only done one brake so far.

Pay very close attention to what Crazyvwvanman says and shows on page 1.
Print it out and put it in your bentley, page 46.6.

I was able to take my drum off again and fix this yesterday. Thanks.
