Cipica, VW 1303S from '74

Thank you for the idea. I did not weld stainless steel before, but I intend to test. The type 4 exhaust is stainless, and my plan was to weld on some fins, then cover them in sheet metal and use parts of some heater boxes for controls. Still a long way to go, due to time and other activities (the other bug is under build).
Very interesting with the front cooler used for heat, also. I actually have a Mercedes oil cooler, but I never made the effort to duct it up front, I kept everything at the back (and a different type of cooler).
About wife's preference, I agree, not too many like her, she really likes these old cars. However, we also have some more modern cars for daily drive or long, fast trips.
Bumpers: No, I will not work on such parts. I am not so profficient at welding, and I do not have the patience to create them. I already have a nearly perfect chrome front bumper, I'll just buy another one for the rear.

It looks very good. The chrome bumpers bring attention to the other chrome trim also. I never noticed the eyelids on the headlights before.

Yesterday we participated in an oldtimer cars event, "Photo finish". We drove around town and then parked in the city center in front of some musums, as it was also "night of the museums". We caught some rain, too. A few pics now, more will come.
The yellow one is a good friends, who helped me a lot and for whom we worked the whole week up till late in the night to get running. Installed Kafer brace bars, had to transform heaters in J tubes, installed a 1776.
Fid the bugs! Hint: we formed a semaphore.

The green stripe on the camper is a nice touch!

You have a beautiful town center and it must have felt great to get your friend's bug done in time for the show.

Solved the VDO tacho issue! I tried the diode trick, sometimes it was working well, sometimes it was all over the place. I changed the 1N4007 to BA159 (faster), no effect. Then, after some discussions with the designer and manufacturer of the electronic ignition I have (Gotronic, universal, I have those on all old vehicles since years), I found out it has a pull-up to 12V on the points input, so I took the signal from there: perfect! RPM showed correctly and steady.

600km round trip this weekend, to a meeting called "BusStock and American Shine". Well, more Bugs than american cars, ane many campervans, not only VWs. Very nice event, family time, old friends, good weather.
It ran very well, we had several steep roads. Mostly I could even do 50km/h uphill in 3rd. The last pull was 1000m altitude difference in ~20km or less, up to 1400m, and here it was 1st and second mostly. . She could not pull the caravan on the very last slope (200m away from the campground), which was extremely steep, gravel road, which I did not foresee and did not have enough momentum. I tried to start from that incline, I only moved it 2-3m more and cooked the clutch disk (just a bit, it still runs ok). Some guys with a new van came behind, they had towing hook so we moved the caravan to their car and arrived safe.
Oil temperature: only when going to the meeting, around my home, there were 35 deg C outside and on one slope it went up to 105 deg C. Then we started to go down, temperature outside dropped below 30 deg C and oil went immediately down to 95 and it stayed there. So, avoid driving in high temperatures with caravan behind.
Conclusion: finish that damned type4 that sits in the livingroom since 2018.

Long weekend fun. We attended a bug and bus show in Hungary, Gyomaendrod, 200km away. We go there every year from Thursdays to Sundays. Lots of cars, spa, pools, kids games, raffle, and the most funny tradition, the parade and water battle. Everyone in the village is out with water guns, buckets, hoses etc and from the cars, who is brave enough to drive with the windows down, can fight back in the same way. Busses (especially single cabs and dokas) are most suitable for sprinkling back, having the "stage" behind . I will post some movie clips once available.

You are having a great summer with the Caravan My wife and I travelled last week camping in the Playpac, but we pulled it with her Jeep. Your pictures are lighting a fire under me to get the hitch rigged up on the Super Beetle, at least to pull it to camp at the VW shows.
