This picture is so amazing as I have a couple of pictures during my build phase with my kids that are now teenagers.
Awesome metal work!
Between Wolf and Mika they do a badass job on those aftermarket parts they almost should be considered NOS because they are that good. |
Thanks! It's funny how the kids get older and we stay the same.
And yes, so awesome to have those guys making great replacement metal.

Did you MIG or TIG the rear bumper mount panel in? |
MIG
Here's the other side...
The decklid I got was hit hard and I had started on it years ago. I spent a little more time straightening it out and installed a NOS inner piece...
This goes back a couple years and at this point I wasn't happy with how things were fitting together and the work stalled out for a bit. The decklid wasn't fitting well, things weren't lining up and I decided the right fender I had was too rough to use to figure it out. So I was on the lookout for a better right side ribbed fender. We were in Hessisch Oldendorf for the show and while walking the swap I looked down to see a nice rear right fender at a reasonable price. I start talking to the guy and it's Jan(originalo here). It's always cool meeting people in person you've only talked with over the internet. I had a friend bringing some stuff back, he offered to get it back and I was back on track...

Thanks Scott. Great to hear from you!
With the quarters all welded up and everything fitting well, it was time to weld the rear apron. I installed the seal channel and inner apron piece. I know there's a repro available now but I had heard mixed results so I just used the original one off the old apron. It's a kind of beat up but will be fine with a little more work. I also primed the quarters in and out before installing the apron...
I really didn't see a way to leave this hinge carrier off any longer. The metal was damaged and stretched where it met the decklid and I needed to sort this out now. So I had the piece blasted and I cleaned up the inside as best I could, primed everything and welded it up...
Finally, the welding on the rear clip is just about done...

Man Dave, That rear fender/apron curve without exhaust holes gets me every time. Just some serious old world design greatness there.. and you do it justice. A true artisan.
You know I probably owe you some cash because when I sold my split I LIBERALLY splashed all over the ads "Paint Matching by Dave Sweinhagen".
Thanks for the inspiration to get working on projects. _________________ DB

Thanks again guys! This rear clip felt like it was never going to end.
With the welding finished on the clip, I moved to the fenders, fit the taillights and finished any misc welding they needed.
Then I went to body work and primer on the decklid and rear clip. Just keeping things small and manageable as I go. I'm using PPG DP50 on the bare metal then Evercoat G2 on the high build areas...
