|

I was gifted a brand new what looks to be a M&T soft top. Seems maybe the same as a Robbins top.
So I am having not so much luck on install information. Just getting told I should but a thing shop top. But free is worth my time. The top is nice. Just have to figure out a couple things before I go install it.
The biggest and probably main question is best way to do the rear with the metal bar.
This top has metal grommets and the straps. But inside just the flap and the metal bar is supposed to be installed (reuse original metal bar per instruction) in that flap. Any ideas how to best secure and do that?
Any other tips. I see posts about happy owners of a robbins top. |

those are only partially helpful.
I have searched samba... I have searched facebook. google. and you tube.
the videos above are for the "thing shop top" and Yes I am sure I will get comments to just buy a thing shop top. but that is not helpful here...
the top I have, (that I got for free), is a nice looking top. but the differences I see are two items:
1. no holes punched in header.. I will have to do some measuring. but that is not really a concern of mine.
2. they say to re-use the original metal strip in the rear. so I have that removed from my original top that was on the car. so I am trying to figure out the best method to use that bar... glue it in? or is there a better way? the one I had, the straps and the rings for the loops went all the way through the top and this bar.
from a marking and searching here is current link to what top I believe I have:
https://www.mtmfg.com/category/view/1821
but I think that is exact same as the robbins:

here is the edge of my top I am trying to figure out the best way:
last note. I did talk to Mr. Blasso a few times. and he gave me some good directions over the phone.... prior to me digging out my top and setting up this project. so I will also be giving him a follow up call. |

I believe the top that came with my Thing was a Robbin's top. The metal bar simply slipped through the pocket and wasn't held in by glue or fasteners of any kind. The upper flap with the grommets more or less secured everything. _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |
