|
|
I have a VW buggy... I think, just a guess the seats are a 67? These are original and in bad shape... This is the good one. The drivers seat is really bad. Not sure if these came with the Loop mounting frame?? The seats are not bolted in, but seem to lock in place very well by just dropping in. I just have the 2 front seats to redo.
What kind of seats are these? And where can I get new covers? Not just a seat cover but a cover to reupholster, if you follow. I prefer a blue or grey. I don't want to spend a lot on them, but to get in and out you climb on the seat, so they need to be be kind of durable. Almost thinking of making my own.
Going to do some rehab on the seat frame to make it stronger.

hard to say just from that photo, is it rigid or does the back fold forward? looks like it might be basket weave vinyl but I suspect the seat has been altered to fit your buggy. might have originally been a seat from a walk through bus...? _________________ "we're here on Earth to fart around" kurt vonnegut

Interesting, not that I zoom in I can see that it looks fixed as the current upholstery looks to wrap around the bottom. Nice catch! _________________ __________

Yes the back upholstery wraps around the bottom. It is a fixed seat and does not fold. Are the covers kind of universal? As long as they do not have a head rest?
I was thinking or replacing with a head rest seat, but these do the job. |

Looks like it may have been a boat seat originally. |

They are VW. They have the tracks installed on them.
I think they are this style, but the (loop) bracket is missing.

You might be lucky when you remove the covers that if they are VW that sometimes the year date is stamped on the backrest frame.
I say this because on my 68 the two frames are marked 68R and 68L on one of the clips that are folded together to join the frame segments together.
Is this co-incidence? Don't know. I've asked the question a couple of times on the SAMBA but no-one has refuted it nor have they offered any evidence that it exists on any other car. Perhaps they marked all cars 68R and 68L. _________________ 1968 1500 RHD Lotus White Beetle since birth. In the hospital for major surgery

I will look for that... I pulled the lower seat apart... I think I will replace the springs if I find a place that has replacements.
Since the seats get jumped on to get in the vehicle, I did some reinforcing to the bottom of the seat. Now for finding parts. |

The backrest on a beetle set is a separate piece, still not quite sure what you have there… My guess is if you buy new beetle seat covers you are going to have fitment issues…
Check the lower backrest arms and how they are outside the upholstery and attach to the lower leg frame.
Nothing like your seat…

Now that I am doing more research, the slide does not look like a VW slide... Might be a seat from another car. |

Yep completely different. My seat has a tube. maybe 1" made in an L shape that goes all the way around the seat.
After taking a look... It would be nice if whoever made it stamped a logo on the parts. At least on the tracks. |

Post a pic of the bottom of the seat and the attachment rails in the pan and maybe somebody can help identify them better…
Looks like a cool setup for a buggy where you want lower seats anyway. |

Hmmm lost cause?? The frame has a 16 stamped on it and the adjuster has an S. Maybe not even VW at all.
Anyone recognize this release handle?? It is un riveted from the slider, since I did a lot of welding to reinforce it.

Yea the lower seat fits great. Now is the time I should have taken more pictures before I welded up to make it stronger for climbing in. The parts were rusty. It was in the rain a lot before I even got to it.
This does seem different. It has foam padding and a zig zag spring. More research is showing VWs have coil springs and sisal (SP?) padding.
Let me see what I can do for better pictures. |

I did take a couple before pictures... Pretty crappy. Phones seem to take poor pictures. It had a tiny wire with a spring that connected the left and right side track releases together.
