Nice! "71 or '72 looking very original except for the exhaust. Vintage speed perhaps?

Did non-convertibles come from the factory with those vented deck lids?

yes, from 70/71 with the 1600 engine. later in 72, with the doghouse oil cooler they changed the design to have 4 columns of vents

There are variations on that. My '71 had the doghouse oil cooler and only 2 deck lid vents. The '70 my Boss bought for his daughter didn't have any deck lid vents. I expect changes were made mid year in many cases.

oprn -you're in Canada, may be different there.

USA - 1969 and earlier sedans had no deck lid vents, just the convertibles did.

1970 sedans (single port 1600cc with non-doghouse) had 2 deck lid vents as did my own made-in-late-1969 1970 sedan. 1970 Convertibles had 4 deck lid vents.

1971 sedans (dual port 1600cc with non-doghouse) had 2 deck lid vents. 1971 Convertibles had 4 deck lid vents.

All 1972-on had 4 deck lid vents, slightly different design than the 1970-1971 convertibles.

I see this Super Beetle every time I go to this local medical center. Evidently the owner works there. (Larkspur, CA)

52 years old. It has paid its debt in manufacturing carbon load, many, many times over.

What's the blue car in the garage?

I saw this a few weeks ago, and took the photo from across the street at Aldi's.
